Before joining SUIS Qingpu, Edie was not exactly an extroverted and active student. She kept a low profile in her class group, feeling awkward and shy about leading teams or speaking in public. However, as time progressed from primary to middle school, she gradually became more confident and proactive. She eagerly sought leadership roles in class and school-wide activities, enthusiastically organizing and guiding her classmates to participate, which often yielded positive responses. Her transformation was not just in her outward behaviour but also in her attitude towards challenges. For Edie, every opportunity, big or small, became a building block for shaping herself. Each attempt and opportunity were crucial steps in enhancing her abilities.
In Grade 5, the Primary School organized an Intercontinental “Europe” Carnival, where one of the challenges was to create a model of a medieval European siege weapon using simple materials like paper and glue. As the team leader, Edie led her group to complete the project. Although the final model was not perfect in appearance, the experience meant much more to her than the artifact itself. This experience significantly boosted her confidence, and she began to realize that she was fully capable of independently leading a team to accomplish a task.
Since Edie entered middle school, her growth and changes have caught the attention of teachers, classmates, and parents. When she first arrived at the middle school, she was incredibly quiet during English lessons and not very enthusiastic in activities. However, by the end of Grade 7, the situation had significantly changed. Both her homeroom and English teachers noticed a considerable improvement in her English skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, compared to when she first joined the middle school. In Edie’s view, these improvements were subtly integrated into her daily classroom learning and training. ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,’ and ‘progress happens with the accumulation of every day’. With constant encouragement from teachers and mutual support from classmates, she went from being silent to learning to speak up bravely. This was a significant challenge for her. Fortunately, she successfully overcame this mental barrier to achieve her current success.
“I am really grateful to my teachers and classmates for providing me with a lot of help, which has led to significant progress in my English studies and has also motivated me to continue learning English in the future!” Let us look forward to seeing more achievements in Edie’s English studies in the months and years ahead!
After these various experiences, Edie now tries to participate in many school or class group activities. For her, these activities are not just about completing tasks, but also a process of learning and growing. She learned how to guide a team towards a common goal, how to effectively plan the timing of each step, how to motivate team members, and how to instill confidence in everyone for achieving their outcome. What is more precious than this is that, through these collaborative activities, she has met many like-minded partners, a group of friends who pursue progress together. Everyone helps and encourages each other, and everyone continuously becomes better through these experiences.
This semester, Edie welcomed another significant achievement at SUIS Qingpu – she was successfully elected as the Vice-President of the Middle School Student Council, a special group of students dedicated to making our campus even better. From initially participating in group activities within her class and standing on the podium to give presentations, to now leading students of different grades in collaborative work, all these experiences have enhanced Edie’s confidence and leadership abilities. She increasingly believes in her capability to take on the ‘leader’ role, facing any challenge with composure.
Her performance as the Vice-President of the Student Council has been particularly outstanding. Whether planning large-scale school events or managing daily student affairs, Edie consistently demonstrates her wisdom and abilities. She is not only skilled in organizing and planning but also effective in communication and coordination, ensuring that every project runs smoothly. Under her leadership, the Student Council members have shown their best teamwork, creating many memorable campus moments together.
The word ‘persistence’ perfectly encapsulates Edie’s growth experience. She always believes that persisting in something, no matter how trivial it may seem, is crucial. In her philosophy, even in situations that might lead to failure, the process of giving one’s all is most worthwhile, and sometimes the results can be surprisingly good.
In Edie’s story, we see the limitless possibilities of the future at SUIS Qingpu. The school is not only a temple of knowledge and skills but also a cradle for nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators. Here, every teacher and student is dedicated to creating a supportive, encouraging, and inspiring environment, enabling each student to discover their potential and realize their dreams.
We are full of anticipation for Edie’s future, believing she will continue to impact those around her with her wisdom, passion, and perseverance. At the same time, we wish that every teacher and student at SUIS Qingpu pursue excellence in this motivating environment and together create a brighter tomorrow. Let us look forward to more brilliant stories like Edie’s.
