Once upon a time, “A mouse bites the sky to open it, the earth is returning to its beauty at Chou, a team of oxen is doing its commendable duty. They are the load that endures all things on earth.＂In the eyes of the Chinese people, Oxen are also the hope of life: every year before the beginning of spring, we must play and dance with the oxen, to pray for wind, rain and abundant grain.
In this farewell to the old, we welcome the new year. The art department teachers led the students through a series of creations with the theme of “Ox,” expressing all the teachers and students’ wishes for the new year.
GRADE 1
collage artworks
G1 students completed their collage artworks with thick paper clippings, which reinforced the student’s understanding of an oxen’s body structure. The pastel color makes the effect of the work more striking.
GRADE 2
cartoon
G2 students learned cartooning, referencing from “Niuniu New year”, some of the oxen in the artwork are holding a great treasure, some are shooting off firecrackers, and many other different activities to welcome the new year.
GRADE 3 & 4
comprehensive materials
G3 and G4 students combined their theoretical knowledge of “Contrasting Colors” and “Similar Colors” to design and paint “Totem Ox” and “Dancing Ox,” students experimented with materials such as watercolor, pastel, marker pen pigment, and other materials, creating their own exciting artworks.
GRADE 5
sculptures
G5 students developed three-dimensional works designed in a variety of different movements. The oxen sculptures were created by clay and then being painted with metal colors.
Through the theme of the Chinese Ox, the children learned a variety of fine arts skills and the qualities of oxen. To be hardworking, pioneering, and enterprising were deeply engraved in the hearts of the children.
Among them, some of the children’s excellent works have been selected to make the new year calendar for the “Year of the Ox”. The calendar is for the “New Year Charity” and a wonderful gift! We believe that 2021 will be blessed with health, wealth and happiness!
