Following elder brother and sister into the auditorium, participating in the “Charity and Love” themed Flag-raising Ceremony
Behold! The auditorium was adorned with pairs of eager eyes, fixed on the stage, attentively listening to the elder brothers and sisters as they shared their experiences participating in the charity sale event. The admiration of these young onlookers was beyond words. This flag-raising ceremony held a unique characteristic—it revolved around the theme of a charity sale. Dressed in traditional attire, the students from SUIS Qingpu delivered a heartfelt charity song titled “We+”, sowing the seeds of love in the hearts of every child present. We eagerly anticipate their future endeavours as they pass on the baton of love while continuing to grow.
A primary school classroom is a sight to behold – abundant, captivating, and enjoyable! When primary school teachers entered the kindergarten armed with a variety of teaching aids, the children eagerly fixed their gaze upon them, brimming with anticipation. Within these classrooms, a refreshing activity called “Fun Classification” took place, accompanied by a hilarious play titled “The Blind Man Touches an Elephant” that never failed to entertain. The air was filled with the pleasant and melodious notes of “Epo I tai tai e.” Additionally, Mr. Mickey hosted engaging birthday parties, creating an atmosphere of joy. Mathematics, Chinese, music, and English classes were all vibrant and fascinating! These distinctive classrooms served as a catalyst for the children, expanding their logical thinking and enhancing their language expression from the very beginning. The kindergarten children, enchanted by the beautiful melodies, experienced the magic of primary school classrooms for the first time.
When kindergarten students meet their primary school counterparts, wonderful interactions unfold. Dressed in formal attire, representatives from our Primary School enter the kindergarten classrooms, assuming the role of little messengers. They graciously engage in interviews with the ‘little journalists’ present, answering questions such as, ‘Are you happy being a primary school student?’ and ‘How many skills do primary school students need to learn in a day?’ Curiosity extends to the primary school’s food offerings, prompting inquiries about their deliciousness. Faced with the enthusiastic inquiries from the kindergartners, the ‘little messengers’ respond kindly, sharing stories of their personal growth. Through their own experiences, these older siblings convey a tale of growth. Gradually, the children’s doubts dissipate as they receive enthusiastic and professional answers. Smiles begin to form on their faces, and they embark on a journey, imagining the wonders of primary school life.
Following the ‘Campus Ambassador’ for a tour of the campus – no one will get lost in the future: A Primary School campus visit
Attending classes with first-grade students is an experience filled with surprises, cooperation, fun, and experimentation. Following the delightful Grade 1 classroom experiences, it was time for a dim sum feast with their older brothers and sisters. The older students warmly welcomed their kindergarten counterparts, inviting them to taste and share dim sum together. After a satisfying meal, guided by the teachers, the children embarked on a fascinating campus tour. They explored an innovative technology corridor, marvelled at an ancient scholar’s house adorned with blue tiles and red eaves, and stepped into a multifunctional classroom equipped with nearly everything one could imagine. As they entered a fully-equipped playground, exclamations of “Wow!” and “Ah!” filled the air, accompanied by screams of surprise. Amidst the excitement, the children’s imaginations blossomed, painting a vivid picture of the beautiful world that awaits them in primary school.
On the day of the study tour, the kindergarten children formed a long and orderly queue as they silently entered various classrooms in the Grade 1 area of the Primary School. The lessons encompassed subjects such as English, Chinese, mathematics, and art. Just like the other primary students, the kindergarteners listened attentively to the teachers’ clever explanations. Remarkably, the kindergarten children also took diligent notes! While immersed in the classroom experiences, one wonders if they were contemplating the knowledge imparted by the teachers or envisioning their own wonderful lives as primary school students. After the lessons concluded, the children gathered around the teacher, eagerly seizing every opportunity to communicate with their ‘future teacher’ in advance. Through this immersive experience in primary school classrooms, I firmly believe that the kindergartners will develop a clearer understanding of what a real primary school classroom looks like.
Parents questions answered by the Primary School Principal – A parent lecture on the transition from Kindergarten to Primary School
The parents of the senior classes in the kindergarten gathered at the Theatre for the first event of the kindergarten-to-primary-school transition – a parent lecture centered around this theme. Assistant Principal Helen extended a sincere and warm welcome to the parents, marking the initiation of this transition activity. Teacher Summer, a Deputy-Head in the Primary School division, introduced the curriculum structure and distinctive courses offered in the Primary School. From the perspective of a frontline teacher, Teacher Yao from Grade 1 provided parents with a glimpse into the fulfilling and joyful days of primary school students. Furthermore, Teacher Yao offered scientific suggestions for the transition from kindergarten to primary school, emphasizing the importance of tailored plans that suit the individual characteristics of each child. As each lecture concluded, warm applause from the parents echoed throughout the Theatre, like a gentle spring breeze, dispelling their anxieties and instilling them with unwavering confidence.
This activity provided an opportunity for both children and parents to savor the essence of ‘growth.’ The positive feedback from parents further enriched this unforgettable experience. We eagerly anticipate the moment when these children step through the gates of the Primary School, warmly welcoming them into the next chapter of their educational journey.
