Explore magical Africa with sound
In November, United International School Qingpu Campus welcomed the inaugural SUIS Voice English subject Competition. As one of the diverse activities of this “African Carnival”, it really ramped-up the joy of English and interdisciplinary learning for the students. Since the beginning of SUIS Voice competition, Chinese and foreign English teachers have guided children to learn and understand the local customs, as well as cultural knowledge of the African continent in class. The students read books related to Africa and described a diverse and colorful picture of the many countries with their voices focused around different themes in each grade.
Hope to share through books,
Create more children who are good at thinking in reading.
Exposure to different types of books in different fields.
Provide a platform for children to show and communicate.
Encourage children to explore magical Africa from books and express their ideas bravely with their voices.
Teachers have recommended books on Africa with different levels and types to children in each year, and selected some books for intensive reading in the reading course.

The theme of Grade Two was “show and tell”. Through reading and exploring East African books, students understood the natural features and customs of Africa. And choose your favorite book and introduce it to you through a presentation.
The theme of the Fourth Grade competition was “best seller”. Through reading books about North Africa, students explore the human and natural scenery of Africa. The children incarnate as “best seller” and recommend their own good books to the students through speeches, and compare whose books are the best sellers. In this process, students not only understand African culture, but also improve their speech ability.
The theme of our Grade 5 was “a creative connector”. Students explored the culture in Central Africa, understand the characteristics and differences of biogeographic features and languages, reflect on the culture and history of Africa, and analyze the opportunities and challenges faced by Central Africa.
Foreign teachers also gave professional and detailed comments on each speaker, and praised each child who actively participated in the process and made great effort.
Reading should be a joy, which makes people increase their understanding, make people recognise the truth, make people look forward to the future and teach people to taste life. I believe that this SUIS Voice Carnival will last forever in the hearts of the students.
