Meeting the first time with love
In order to help children adapt to primary school life in advance of the start of the school year, SUIS Qingpu launched a summer camp with the theme of water, combining learning with fun and opening a rich and meaningful integration of exploration, discovery, and experiential learning.
In the morning, our adorable students were led by teachers into our campus. With hands held warmly, the teachers expressed their love and expectations. The students all looked forward to a new chapter in their lives, ready for an amazing school year.
In the short time they all spent together, the children learned, played and shared their experiences, creating lasting memories.
Our subject teachers did a wonderful job at the opening ceremony. The PE teachers demonstrated amazing moves and motions. The music teachers performed beautiful music. The Chinese teachers recited creative poems. The math teachers provided amazing magic shows. The English teachers performed lovely songs. Each subject group used their own ways to display their subject’s characteristics and to express their deep love for our students.
To be future explorers>>>
Students were taken on a campus tour led by our homeroom teachers. The campus tour allowed students to become more familiar with their environment, providing them with a sense of comfort and safety.
The experience of water activities: Fun learning! >>>
The learning process is never easy. However, in order to allow beginners to feel the charm of learning, our student-centered and active classes served to initiate their learning journeys. Let’s look together!
- Culture Water
The Chinese teachers prepared for the activities by dedicating a themed-learning course with riddles and picture books like “Little Water Drop’s Travels”. In this course, the students enjoyed a beautiful trip with Little Water Drop and experienced the beauty of travelling. Students also gained a better understanding of water and its connection to ancient Chinese language. They also took part in pairing games and designed water bookmarks.
Additionally, students also learned Chinese characters and writing techniques, and discovered which Chinese characters related to several ancient Chinese poems.
- Measurable Water
In the water-themed mathematics activity, the little students transformed into Little Cao Chong and applied the smart use of stones to solve problems related to water quantity. They learned to use mathematics to observe the world and solve problems. They all became little Master of Mathematics!
There is so much beauty in numbers hidden within mathematics. In the classroom, the students also experienced travelling through ancient and modern times, understanding the history of the development of mathematics through “Math Magic – Discover the Beauty of Mathematics”.
In the exploration of the operation of dice, mind reading, and the Möbius ring, they discovered the true essence of mathematics. The activities allowed the young mathematicians to understand that math is more than just counting.
- Developing responsibility for water
Water is the source of all things – it is a gift given to us by nature. The English teachers used ‘Water – A Gift from Nature!” as the theme for their exciting activity. This activity not only allowed the students to gain an initial understanding of the importance of water in life, but also allowed them to perceive how precious water is!
In the English summer camp, children started their day with a singing activity. They then entered different worlds filled with characters and stories through reading activities. They expressed themselves through speaking and sharing activities, and then participated in hands-on activities to deepen their understanding of water.
- The vitality of water
Every child has potential, and helping each student realize their potential should not be limited to the lessons in their daily subjects. We believe that learning occurs more effectively when children are given the opportunity to explore the world we live in.
In music class, students explored the sounds of nature. The children discovered how to change tones by adding water to a glass, experiencing the wonderful collision of water and music.
Wandering in the ocean of colours and exploring the combination of water and art, students engaged with more water-themed activities. Adding paint and soap solution to the water, students witnessed colourful bubbles of different sizes and bright colours!
They then created many creative patterns, freely matching different colours, to make their own name tags. Students experienced the wonderful, visual impact of colour!
In the STEAM class, teachers took water as their theme and explored the basic characteristics of water with students. Students learned to observe and think using the scientific method and logic. They also learned new knowledge through hands-on activities and their own perceptions. Our little scientists immersed themselves in fun, little science experiments.
Every child is born an artist. In the comprehensive art class, students experienced the world of creativity through more hands-on activities. The diversity of the art activities helped each student express their unique self.
In the “AI Little Maker” activity, students worked in pairs using iPADS and experienced the fun of creating and editing for the very first time. They were all amazed by the fun and charm of technology!
Swimming is not only a skill but also an art that cultivates courage and perseverance. Under the guidance of the teachers, students stepped into the world of swimming. Endless fun unfolded as children explored various movements in the water. They will grow up and swim through challenges together.
In the gymnasium, the children worked at holding rackets in their hands properly, followed the teacher’s instructions, and tried to swing the rackets. Presumably, the little ones realized the charm of the national ball.
In addition to the summer camp activities there were fencing and golf experiences. Under the guidance of the teachers, the students were impressive!
During the summer camp, the students were full of joy and fun. They also made progress and experienced growth and discovered their extraordinary potential!
Pray for the vision and shoulder the mission. In the school’s Main Theatre, students listened to Co-Principal Sunny Huang’s encouragement and best wishes. She encouraged students to learn perseverance in the ocean of learning, and to always remain curious in a life of rules. The student’s apparent ignorant and immature eyes flashed with excited expectations for the new semester. In the end, the students followed the Co-Principal as she recited SUIS Qingpu’s new vision statement – SUIS Qingpu: the future of education, in service to the world. Wonderful primary school life has started!
Best wishes to all the students!
Our students established basic knowledge of water in our summer camp. We witnessed each student’s little face and noticed their eyes full of the thirst for knowledge. In the golden autumn, we really look forward to our students excelling in their primary school lives, growing with confidence and calmness.
