Hello everyone! I am a “blue ribbon” that frequently appears at the Qingpu Campus of Shanghai United International School. Don’t underestimate me; being adorned with me is a matter of great honor! I have many enthusiastic and adorable companions—campus ambassadors and volunteers. Together with them, I have participated in numerous campus activities, witnessing the growth of many students. Today, let me guide you on a journey of love to meet the little friends I’ve gotten to know over the past six months.
In October 2023, the thematic seminar on “New Curriculum Standards Research” for primary school English subjects in Qingpu District, Shanghai, was held at our school. Over 180 teacher representatives from fourth and fifth grades of various primary schools in Qingpu District, along with our school’s Chinese and foreign teachers, gathered at SUIS Qingpu campus. Our campus ambassadors led the visiting English teachers on a tour of the campus, showcasing SUIS Qingpu’s educational achievements, hardware facilities, and teaching environment in fluent English, earning high praise and compliments. Here is one of the outstanding “little tour guides” to share her experiences with us. Let’s hear what she has to say!

“It is with great honour that I was able to join the volunteer team of SUIS Qingpu as a campus ambassador. Throughout this year, I have participated in numerous volunteer activities, experiencing hard work, joy, achievements, and growth. Among these activities, the most memorable was serving as a little English guide for foreign English teachers, introducing them to SUIS Qingpu. This event was particularly rewarding for me because not only did I showcase the spirit of SUIS Qingpu’s students and our beautiful campus to the visiting teachers, but I also greatly improved my English communication skills. It is these precious volunteer experiences that have allowed me to help others while also growing into a better version of myself. I hope to continue this path of volunteering and make further contributions.

Little Friends at the Third Stop: Ambassadors for “A Loving New Year is Even Happier” Charity Sale and Fundraising Event
“A New Year with Love is Even Happier” charity sales with Xiehe Education have been ongoing for over a decade. Since the establishment of SUIS Qingpu in 2019, we have organized charity sales and other related activities each year. In March 2024, our campus ambassadors served as fundraising ambassadors of love. Dressed in traditional Yunnan attire and carrying baskets of Yunnan Orah mandarins, they promoted the fundraising campaign across the campus, encouraging teachers and students to contribute their love and support.

Little Friends at the Fifth Stop: Volunteers in the Campus Cafeteria
The time when you are most likely to see me is probably when I appear in the school’s second-floor cafeteria! Class representatives of each class have identified areas in the cafeteria that need assistance through on-site investigations and surveys. We students have promoted and mobilized the recruitment of cafeteria volunteers by designing posters and displaying them in the classrooms. Although I am often covered in sweat and have food stains on my protective clothing during my time in the cafeteria, I feel extremely happy every time I see teachers and classmates smile at me. Let’s here from a student who is both a Student Council representative and a cafeteria volunteer.

Firstly, volunteering has taught me how to communicate more effectively with others. In the cafeteria, I needed to interact with people, reminding fellow students to place their trays according to the rules and to handle them gently. This not only honed my communication skills but also boosted my confidence.
Secondly, I learned to appreciate the labour of others. Seeing the hard work of the cafeteria staff, who diligently prepare delicious meals for us, I came to understand the effort behind every meal. I shared these insights with my classmates, hoping that everyone would cherish food and avoid waste.
Lastly, volunteering has cultivated a sense of responsibility within me. I always arrive early for my shifts, ready to assist my fellow students. I have felt the joy of helping others and I am satisfied and proud of doing what I can.
Volunteering at the cafeteria has significantly contributed to my growth, making it a very meaningful experience in my primary school life.
