Their passion and dedication have truly impressed us all!
Under the guidance of our talented Computer Science teachers, the students embarked on a thrilling journey to create innovative applications that could assist our amazing teachers in various aspects of their work. After weeks of research, dedication, and hard work, the students’ creativity and love for app design finally paid off.
The Grade 8 APP Display Competition was a spectacle of excitement and brilliance! Esteemed judges, including Mr. Watt, Deputy-Head of Middle School, Mr. Gurkan, Co-Head of High School, and Mr. Steven Xu, Head of IT, were invited to assess the remarkable projects presented by twelve exceptional groups of eighth-grade students. Each group showcased unique app concepts, ranging from language translators and math trainers to entertaining games. The level of creativity displayed by these young minds was awe-inspiring, and their captivating speeches added an extra layer of brilliance to the event.
But it didn’t stop there! The competition incorporated interactive question sessions, allowing the judges and audience to gain a deeper understanding of the students’ app designs and the content of their speeches. The participants skillfully responded to queries, demonstrating their comprehensive understanding of their respective projects. This engagement fostered a closer connection between the audience and the students, leaving everyone impressed with their knowledge and expertise.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the winning projects:
First Prize Winner: Ricky & Amy – “Calculation Practice Tool”:
Their app aimed to enhance calculation skills and improve efficiency. With four main sections covering basic algorithms, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, users of this app can select their desired number range for each section. The app challenges students to answer as many questions as possible within a one-minute time limit. Immediate feedback and a simple, user-friendly design make learning a breeze.
This app was designed to assist teachers in managing students. It offers features for homework assignments and student engagement, with a user-friendly interface tailored for math, English, and physics teachers. Notably, the inclusion of a Text-to-Speech feature empowers visually impaired students, promoting inclusivity within the classroom.
Their app streamlines the homework assignment process for teachers and creates a focused learning environment for students. With separate sections for different subjects, teachers can easily assign and manage homework, while students can access assignments and submit completed work. The app’s simplicity and functionality ensure an effective and efficient homework experience.
The Grade 8 APP Display Competition proved to be an exceptional platform for showcasing the immense talent and potential of our eighth-grade students.
