From time to time, SUIS Qingpu’s Primary School organizes reading-themed events called “Experts Visit the Campus”. One such visit occurred recently on June 19, where we invited the renowned British author, Alex Frith, to meet with our students.
To cater to the reading needs of students of different age groups, Alex Frith arranged two separate themed lectures. He presented a topic related to the universe to third and fourth grade students, and then introduced a topic related to the human body to first, second and fifth grade students.

He decided to pose three questions based on the intriguing stories and exciting excerpts from his books to stimulate the children’s thinking.
1.What is science?
2.Do you have any science knowledge?
3.How can one create a popular science book?
Mr Frith gave full affirmation to the students’ responses. He expressed that the children’s thinking was highly creative and that their understanding of science was profound, affirming their potential to become scientists themselves! He then shared his own views on science with the children: Science requires creativity and thinking. It enlightens people to respect and be in awe of life. Science encompasses not only the natural world but can be approached from any topic or perspective.
With such engaging and interesting lecture content, the ‘distance’ between Alex and the children was quickly bridged! In the end, he not only imparted knowledge about the universe to the children but also shared intriguing phenomena and unsolved mysteries from the cosmos, weaving them into his storytelling. This planted the seeds of a ‘science dream’ within the children.
Having the opportunity for such close interaction with a renowned writer, the children eagerly seized the chance to express their own perplexities about the universe and science, hoping to receive answers from Alex Frith himself!

We are grateful to the Zhong Shuge Bookstore and Usborne Publishing for helping us invite such an approachable and humorous writer like Alex Frith to visit SUIS Qingpu. This “Experts Visit the Campus” event has sown the seeds of exploration of the universe and writing in the hearts of our students, guiding them to develop a love for reading and writing, and empowering them with the power of growth!
