Freshman Camp, here we are!
The opening of the freshman camp saw the Grade 9 students first report to their respective tutor groups to complete their registration, under the guidance of student volunteers. The boarding students entered our dormitory and unpacked their heavy luggage in their rooms.
The freshmen camp’s opening ceremony took place in the Grand Theatre at 10 am. The theatre, which had been empty throughout the entire summer break, received a fresh infusion of energy from all the newcomers who sat in their tutor groups with their tutors. In the years ahead, the freshmen’s most treasured memory will undoubtedly be that of entering the school’s Grand Theatre. Without doubt, the most wonderful time in one’s sparkling youth is now.
Tutors Introduction
During the inaugural ceremony, the SUIS Qingpu High School leadership team welcomed the students and wished them luck. The Grade 9 management team was then introduced, along with the agenda for the two days of the camp. The freshman camp is the first stop on the Grade 9 students’ high school adventure. In tutor groups, students participated in orientation and team-building activities with the both tutors and teachers to facilitate a smoother transition from middle to high school and to grow together as a group.
Hello, nice to meet you!
The events of the freshmen camp officially began at 10:30. Through brainstorming and discussions, each team determined the most original and inventive team name, team logo, team song, and slogan. All team members took part in activities like “Big Tree and Squirrel,” “Relieving Bracelet,” “Station of Books,” and others. The students collaborated closely on each task, laughing and cheering on their teammates, marking the beginning of friendships. Here, they composed the preface of their high school stories. Together, let’s reflect on all of their beautiful times.
Many students seemed a little reserved during their initial interactions with tutors. Soon, though, everyone got to know each other through the lively conversations and activities. The small tutor group teams came together in unity, with members remembering the name of their tutor and their tutor room as well as the names of their classmates in the tutor group; they also encouraged and cooperated with each other during all the activities.
For many new students, living on campus is another new challenge. The freshmen rapidly unpacked their belongings and committed themselves to the activities of the freshman camp with the aid of the boarding coordinators, life teachers, and student volunteers. They learned the standards and procedures for public health and personal hygiene in the dorm during evening time, and started to develop into independent high school students who would create a good and comfortable living environment for themselves and others.
Looking forward to tomorrow
The Grade 9 students attended a lecture given by the well-known anti-drug police representative Liuhua Li on the morning of August 31. In the afternoon, each team performed and showcased their learning outcomes over their two days at camp. In order to get ready for the upcoming semester, the freshmen also took part in tutor group meetings, CCA and CS information sessions, and other orientation programmes. Their stories will become even more wonderful!
