In April, while enjoying the scent of the first buds, we shared our research and discoveries at the Science Fair.
In June, we stood on stage of the musical while listening to the audible chirping of cicadas and singing the ‘youth hymn’.
In September, with a cooler autumn wind, we came together from all over the world to begin the adventure of a new academic year.
The theme for this year’s high school Opening Ceremony was, “SUIS Qingpu: The future of education, in service to the world.” and the ceremony proceeded with these three terms used as guideposts for the ceremony’s three sections. SUIS Qingpu seeks to integrate the East and the West and at the same time pursue harmonious development. Through this guidance and support, SUIS Qingpu students seize the moment and put in great effort to realize their future. Regardless of where they are, they are dedicated to using their work and service to make the world a better place.
COMING TOGETHER FOR SUIS QINGPU
Welcome speech by Ms. Sunny Huang and Dr. Adam Neufield
SUIS Qingpu Co-Principals Ms. Sunny Huang and Dr. Adam Neufield commenced the formal part of the ceremony by providing us with a welcome speech. The senior high school students were greeted warmly by the Co-Principals, who shared their great hopes for the upcoming academic year. We applauded the first cohort of high school graduates for achieving excellent external examination and university admissions results. This year, our students will continue pushing themselves to break new ground, develop their “Chinese roots and global wings”, and use their skills and knowledge to help others and the wider community.
Celebrating the middle school graduation of last year’s Grade 9 students was a significant component of today’s event. In addition to completing the first year of their IGCSE coursework, this group of students passed the Academic Proficiency Examination and successfully earned their middle school graduation certificates. They have already completed an essential stage and are set to embark on new adventures. Congratulations!
Parent representative speech
While we walk forward fearlessly each sunny day, certain people are constantly and secretly supporting and loving us unconditionally. As a parent representative, Mr. Rong Chen, the father of Grade 9 student Chloe Chen, also made an appearance on stage. From the standpoint of a parent, he was very appreciative of the teachers at SUIS Qingpu for their guidance, and shared best wishes for our students as they progress with their education.
LIVE UP TO YOUR YOUTH
Mr. Jon Emerson reviewed the outcomes of the official Cambridge examination
Mr. Jon Emerson, Deputy-Head of the High School, began the section, “The future of education”, by reviewing the outcomes of the official Cambridge examinations from this past spring. Our students continued to maintain a continually rising trend in official examinations despite the overall drop globally. Our first group of graduates earned a 68% A*- C result, which made it easier for the majority of our students to gain unconditional admission to universities.
Bill Huang has been accepted to the University of Cambridge
Bill Huang, Valedictorian of the Class of 2023 and the recipient of the Inaugural Oxbridge-Ivy Scholarship, delightedly spoke from the podium to discuss his learning experiences at SUIS Qingpu. Bill Huang, the first student from our school to be accepted to the University of Cambridge, demonstrated exceptional intellectual and research skills as well as perseverance throughout his high school career. The influence of role models can be seen in philosophy. We send him our best wishes for success in the future.
DASH HARD FOR THE GOOD OF ALL
We then highlighted the high school’s volunteer trip to Yunnan and excursion to Qiandao Lake in the “in service to the world” section. During the trip, many of our high school students bravely stood in front of classes at Dahai Primary School in Yunnan Province and transformed themselves into young teachers, teaching Chinese, mathematics, music, physical education, economics and other courses that they had prepared for. The students’ efforts and joy seen in the video played attested to their commitment and success over their summer service week.
Closing remarks by Ms. Lisa Wang and Mr. David Ranson
Co-Heads of High School Ms. Lisa Wang and Mr. David Ranson then provided closing remarks.
Looking back, we are grateful for all the lessons we have learned in the past that have shaped who we are now. Looking ahead, we preserve our faith and strive to achieve our goals. SUIS Qingpu, the future of education, in service to the world. Let us embark on a brand-new trip today!
