“The eternal moon, like a vessel of the soul, is filled with the Chinese people’s deep attachment to their homeland, their longing for beauty, and their pursuit of happiness.”
As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the atmosphere in SUISQP campus is filled with holiday spirit. In addition to reading poems and sharing legends about the Mid-Autumn Festival with the students, each grade also planned a variety of fun activities. The students can engage with the spirit, values, and energy of the cultural celebration known as the “Mid-Autumn Festival” through a variety of lenses and mediums thanks to these activities.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a day when we send our thoughts to those we miss and look forward to reunion. G1 students created jade rabbit hand fans while clothed in exquisite Hanfu attire. Through fun and joyful activities, they got a taste of the rich atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Speaking, writing, and singing about the Mid- Autumn Festival. G2 students had the opportunity to explore the beauty of traditional Chinese culture through great and impactful culturally-driven events.
G3 students demonstrated their skills by crafting a number of creative and humorous Mid-Autumn riddles. These clever riddles were neatly written down on paper and brought to class for discussion and shared with their peers.
Gathering the Elegance of Mid-Autumn, sharing the beauty of this moment. G4 children, through group collaboration, delved into the knowledge related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Moreover, they created Chinese knots with their nimble fingers, creatively savoring the festivities.
A full moon in the sky, hearts united on campus. G5 students selected their favorite Mid-Autumn themed poems and inscribed them on bookmark paper. They shared these heartfelt wishes with their dear friends, immersing themselves in the beauty of the full moon within the realm of literature.”
Not only did the children and Chinese teachers thoroughly enjoy themselves, but the foreign teachers also felt the charm of Chinese traditional festivals in this rich festive atmosphere. Ms. Anja Fourie from G5 shared her impressions with us:
The Mid-Autumn Festival classroom activities enabled expact teachers to learn more about Chinese Traditions. We had to express our feelings about the festival and write them down using a Chinese Calligraphy brush and ink. Students helped me to write in Chinese which was a first to me and I am super excited to learn even more about the culture. These experiences allows the opportunity for foreigners and Chinese to become one. After all we do have the same moon.
