Junior Physics Challenge(JPC)
The British Physics Olympiad is a charitable trust overseen by a committee of trustees. It was initiated in 1979 and has been used as a qualifier for the selection of the UK Physics Team for the International Physics Olympiad since 1983. The topics from which the questions are developed are from Dynamics, Electricity, Optics, Heat, Units, Waves, and Astronomy. The main objective is to create fun, encourage involvement and inspire passion for physics among students. It aims to inspire middle school students to learn physics, and practice practical skills and critical thinking.
In the 2024 Junior Physics Challenge(JPC), students from SUIS Qingpu achieved impressive results with a 100% award rate, securing 5 Gold Awards, 1 Silver Awards, and 5 Bronze Awards.
Student Reflections

Reflecting on my journey preparing for the Science Bee, I think that participating in a competition like the Science Bee does not require extensive preparation over a prolonged period, nor does it necessitate rote memorization of facts. This is because it is not a quick-win process. Instead, it relies on a genuine passion for science and the gradual accumulation of scientific knowledge over time. Of course, before the competition, it was necessary to go through several sets of past papers to familiarize ourselves with the rules and the general content of the competition.
Through this competition, I have come to understand the importance of extracurricular scientific knowledge. My regular enjoyment of watching biology documentaries and reading books on chemical experiments allowed me to effortlessly tackle biology and chemistry questions without systematic study. Additionally, the competition revealed several gaps in my physics knowledge which I was able to address. Moving forward, I plan to participate in more such competitions to broaden my knowledge base and refine my scientific skills.
My biggest takeaway was that scoring high is not the main goal of the competition. The primary purpose was the continuous enhancement of my scientific knowledge during the preparation process.
