Salad English | Enjoy Learning | Enjoy Life
Whether it’s offline teaching or online teaching, the English group in SUIS Qingpu will adhere to the idea of Salad English, leading the trend of ‘light food’, which not only lets the body enjoy the indulgence of delicious food, prevents the body from feeling the burden of digesting so much. Our English course also aims to prepare wonderful food like a salad for students: Not only do students’ bodies absorb the nutrition of their repast, but also the pressure to learn so much is reduced. Meanwhile, it provides students with a platform to try the role of each letter in Salad, so as to love life and learning.
GRADE 1
Discovering the beauty of life with colours
The world is a colourful place. We encourage our students to discover the beauty of colours and use English to introduce these beautiful things around them. Beloved toys, paintings we have created, fashion in our wardrobe, gorgeous flowers in the back yard… these are all materials from which we draw inspiration from to express our feelings.
GRADE 2
Melody of life: authentic pronunciation and tone
Grade 2 students were asked to enjoy a wonderful dubbing show and replicate it. We encouraged students to apply their knowledge of dubbing into practical learning. Students were encouraged to practice by role-playing two characters at home, and to complete the live dubbing of the textbook through online communication. Throughout the entire process, students’ interest in English dubbing and drama were cultivated, and students’ pursuit of intonation were also improved. The melody of life was brought into harmony through lovely language. Let us appreciate the “beauty” of Grade 2 together!
GRADE 3
Sharing memories, remembering life
In growing up, we experience so many things for the first time. These special moments – either kept in our mind or having become photographs – remain forever as our precious memories. Using the past tense and mood-specific adjectives, Grade 3 students presented their fun and lively stories to parents, classmates and teachers. Linking their textbook knowledge to their daily lives, their sense of connection to the world around them through the foreign language allowed them to fall in love anew with English.
GRADE 4
Paying attention to health and being grateful for the “heroes in harm’s way”
Tourism is an integral part of a happy life when there is no barrier to travel. However, when disease is raging throughout the world, health becomes the top priority in our lives. That’s the reason why we encourage students to learn knowledge related to sickness prevention and publicize prevention methods through brochures. At the same time, we also acknowledge the hard work of medical staff who are struggling on the front line of this battle. In order to express our heartfelt gratitude to these “heroes in harm’s way”, we encourage students to design a three-day itinerary in Shanghai for the medical staff to return safely. Through online communication, students not only feel the difference between brochures and itinerary, but also pay attention to health and express their gratitude.
Salad English | Enjoy Learning | Enjoy Life
Classes may be suspended, but learning goes on! Studying in their bedrooms instead of the classroom, students are learning to orient their new method of learning in space and time. The Primary School English Department believes this is a great time to love, cherish and focus on life through English learning. The key to grasping this opportunity is how to adapt our learning tasks to meet the new status quo. Learning in an ordered, interesting and effective way can help students blur the lines between life and learning, so that the relationship between students and knowledge will become a relationship of “Taking from books; Use in life.”
