This semester has been very special, and children can only study art lessons through video at home. At such a moment, our art teachers hope that all the kids can make friends with art and use the internet to “go out” and learn about the outside world. As art teachers, we have selected artists from different genres and different countries to enrich students’ lives with artists’ stories and works.
Grade 1 & 2 works
During recent art classes, Grade One and Two students learnt about Modern Art and Contemporary Art. They were introduced to famous artists such as Piet Mondrian and Vincent Van Gogh from the Netherlands, Joan Miro from Spain, David Hockney from Britain and Andy Warhol from America. Inspired by Van Gogh, kids looked closely at the environment around them and created drawings and designing their own rooms and appliances. They were also inspired by the nature and landscapes of David Hockney, creating insects and their own outdoor scenes. And just for pure fun we looked at abstract paintings of Joan Miro and Andy Warhol. Students had a chance to fantasize about creating their own animal creatures using symbols and vivid colors.
Grade 3 & 4 works
Grade Three and Four kids drew portraits of the heroes of the epidemic – the healthcare workers, sketched apples and created cartoons with the theme of Happy and Healthy. They have also been taking their first step into the world of Performance Art. Together with the music department, under the theme of Environmentally Friendly, students have made instruments with recycled materials and presented them by video, sketches and fashion croquis. When we return to the campus we will build a wonderful exhibition!
Every artist and artistic style has its own story behind it, which involves history, culture and humanistic spirit. So the artist brings us not only the creation itself, but also the nourishment of the spirit. We also involved parent-child interaction in course design, hoping to allow the adults to accompany the children in depth through the art class, to meet artists from all over the world, to improve artistic literacy and aesthetic appeal, which will be left to our children and allows them benefit from a lifetime magic treasure.
