On Saturday, April 18, 2020, SUIS Qingpu hosted the Kangaroo Maths Competition, the world’s first large-scale international Maths competition for teenagers. Our school was invited by the official ASDAN China (ASDAN Academy) to be the test site for the Kangaroo Maths competition in China.
The Kangaroo Maths competition was initiated by the famous Australian mathematician Peter O’ Halloran in 1980. This competition is different from the traditional mathematics Olympiad. Its aim is to stimulate children’s interest and confidence in mathematics, and to develop students’ mathematical thinking by using interesting topics which are close to their life. It trains students in reading, comprehension, analysis and problem solving skills. Each year, the Kangaroo Maths competition is held in 87 countries and territories, with more than 6 million students participating each year. The competition is gradually becoming popular around the world.
The competition has set up awards including super gold, gold, silver, bronze, and mathematical skills. The examination covers from Grade 1 to Grade 12. The Kangaroo Mathematics Competition has greatly increased participation in the competition, making it possible for students from all sections of our school to participate. After our careful preparation, the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition Committee awarded our school the official bronze medal and provided our coordinators and invigilators with support. As a result, ASDAN China (ASDAN Academy) also gives priority to other international disciplines and quality education resources. This enables our school to bring more quality resources to our students. In addition, after the teachers’ pre-match promotion, pre-match training and preparation for the exams, the competition was very well conducted.
This international event in our school brings more opportunities for our students to participate, broadens their international horizons, and provides them with the developmental space and international platform. Congratulations to the award students again!
