On Oct. 20, the junior high school mathematics seminar with the theme of “Exploring the Evaluation of the Learning Process in ‘Problem-Solving Oriented Teaching’ ” was held in SUIS Qingpu Campus. Ms. Linda Yu, Math teacher from our school, and Mr. Ying Wenqin, teacher from Fudan Wupuhui Experimental School, presented same observation lessons with different teaching structure themed as Cross Multiplication.

Ms. Sunny Huang, SUIS Qingpu Co-acting Principal
Ms. Sunny Huang, SUIS Qingpu Co-acting Principal, delivered a speech for the seminar, and welcomed teachers from all schools to visit our school, and hope that this seminar would be beneficial for everyone. Ms. Xiao Caifeng, Qingpu District teaching and researcher, pointed out that the teaching and research team leader plays a leading role in the school’s mathematics subject, and the lesson preparation team leader in the mathematics subject of a grade. Their professional ability directly affects the mathematics teaching level of the entire school. Ms. Xiao also elaborated on the research background of this activity, which is to integrate unit teaching, strengthen the structured research on teaching materials and teaching content, effectively transform the curriculum concept into unit teaching and evaluation, and instruct teachers to deeply analyze the single-course teaching content, effectively promote the reform of teaching methods through activities such as teaching observations and interactive discussions, in order to enhance teachers’ awareness of unit teaching designing. By doing so, teachers would pay attention to problem-solving capability and the learning process of students. In unit design, they can truly understand problems from the perspective of students and learn through multiple cooperative learning. So, students would become the main character of the classroom, effectively improving the quality of classroom-based teaching, and cultivate students’ mathematical ability to discover, analyze and solve problems.
Ms. Linda Yu, Math teacher from SUIS Qingpu
Mr. Ying Wenqin, teacher from Fudan Wupuhui Experimental School
In the observation class, Ms. Yu Jing started with the students’ exciting mindset and carried out a series of questions introduction. The students’ interest in learning was continuously stimulated. When students encounter problems in their thinking, Ms. Yu could always observe the children’s thinking dynamics, and guide students to find the way to solve problems. Ms. Ying, on the other hand, presented well-designed questions to help students discover problems associated with learnt knowledge and solve problems. Teachers should always pay attention to classroom dialogues, pay attention to students’ mathematics language expression ability, pay attention to the inspiration and difficulties in the thinking process of students, guide them when appropriate, and give reasonable evaluations.
Then, the two teachers conducted lecture activities, and teachers participating in the meeting expressed their opinions and carried out lively discussions and lectures. As the organizer of this event, SUIS Qingpu is deeply honored and expects that all the subject departments of the school will flourish in the various teaching and research activities and build a solid foundation for the development of students.
