In the new semester of the year of the Ox, our primary school began to participate in ‘Reading Circles’ of all grades. This is to realize the differentiation of reading in group cooperation, and build learning support for students from text context to reality context. The five roles in reading circles correspond to the reading level and thinking ability of the five grades respectively, forming a school-based reading circle map.
Let’s learn about the representative roles of each grade and the warm-up performance of students in winter vacation homework!
Grade One – Word Master
Spring follows winter and the year of the Ox comes. In the winter vacation of English study, children were exposed to the roll of Word Master. They broke word barriers one by one during reading, and skillfully made these hard words into a ‘word magnifier’, which is similar to ‘a newborn calf not afraid of tigers!’ I believe that in the new semester, Reading Circle learning, will help the students to become real ‘word masters’.
Grade Two – Sentence Picker
As expected, sentence pickers accumulated pairs of cool English reading sunglasses in the winter vacation of English learning. These glasses can not only help us appreciate poetic sentences in the process of reading, but also help us enjoy the vivid pictures behind the sentences. We believe that the practice of ‘reading circles’ will help make our sentence pickers become ‘good sentence shooters’.

Grade Three – Summarizer
In the winter vacation of English study, third-grade students became ‘Summarizers’, and shared with their peers the generalization of beginning, middle and ending in reading. We believe that through the practice of ‘reading circles’, they will become real ‘Summarizers’.
Grade Four – Creative Connecter

In this winter vacation, fourth-grade students became ‘Creative Connecters’ and associated what they read with themselves, other texts and the world. The sparkle of thoughts turned into exquisite bookmarks made by themselves. We believe that with the practice of ‘reading circles’, the connection network in their mind will become more intricate and the process will become implicit.
Grade Five – Character Analyzer
The fifth-grade graduation drama, The Legend of Mulan completed the initial reading and casting work towards the end of last semester. In order to understand the characters in the drama in-depth, the students used the winter vacation to read the script and analyze the characters from the perspective of ‘Character Analyzer‘.
“为兴趣而阅读”是小学生开展阅读行为的前提,但其实这个前提依靠家庭阅读也能实现,所以学校阅读教学必须实现家庭阅读所无法实现的价值。希望“阅读圈”能帮助学生打通“为消磨时光而阅读,为学习知识而阅读,为初步知晓而阅读,为深入理解而阅读,为讨论思辨而阅读,为解决问题而阅读” 的成长路径。
‘Reading for Interest’ is the premise of primary school students’ reading behavior, but in fact this premise can also be realized by family reading. Therefore, the school teaching of reading must realize the value that family reading can’t achieve. It is hoped that ‘reading circles’ can help students work their way through the growth path of ‘reading for killing time – reading for learning knowledge – reading for preliminary knowledge – reading for in-depth understanding – reading for discussion and speculation – reading for solving problems’.
