March, the season with gentle sunlight and fragrant blossom. Here, Grade 5 parents came to attend the introduction of the Graduation Course in the theatre with the hope of growth.
Ms. Maxine Lu, General Principal of the Xiehe Education Group delivered a speech about the overall planning for life and growth, suggesting that students should build fundamental knowledge as well as interests and motivations.
Then, the head of the Primary Department, Ms. Helen, led the G5 team to introduce the team and curriculum.
Ms. Hanna, Ms. Louise and teachers from bilingual team started a comprehensive introduction about G5 Graduation Course, which is designed specifically for our G5 students to experience a smooth transition from primary to middle school. During the Course, students will experience life in Middle School. Students will all participate in the production or acting of the drama Mulan to cultivate competencies in collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and self-reflection. Moreover, there will be a Survival Camp to raise their ethics, self-awareness and autonomy while the Graduation Ball will bridge students’ intercultural understanding.
The wonderful performance of the primary school graduation course is still in the air. Vice principal, Ms. Flora Zhang and the head of middle school Mr. Bill Wang took the teachers of middle school to the stage.
Vice principal, Ms. Flora Zhang introduced the humanity subjects of middle school, including Chinese, history, geography, Taoism, etc. The teachers of middle school appreciate students, accept the students. They emphasize the spirit of pursuing independence and freedom. Focus on consolidating the foundation of disciplines, expanding the width of learning, and practicing project-based learning, including learning writing from famous artists, taking students to learn literature, film and television reviews, combining traditional handwork culture, focusing on interdisciplinary activities. Through the four-season poetry project group learning, guiding students to observe natural characteristics, experience folk culture and literature, and explore the value of life.
Mr. Bill Wang focused on the introduction of characteristic outdoor research and mathematics courses, among which the museum course is particularly eye-catching. Mr. Wang stressed to make full use of local resources. There are more than 150 museums in Shanghai. Learning objectives should be designed according to the needs of the curriculum, so that children can enter the museum with a clear purpose and full preparation before class. Under the guidance of teachers, carry out immersive cooperative learning, so as to improve children’s exploration ability and innovation ability.
The English group focused on the introduction of Cambridge Global Vision courses. Enhance students’ English ability from grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Regular word spelling contest, English writing contest and group speech contest, all these will cultivate students’ excellent transferable skills, critical thinking and cooperation ability. Music, PE and art teachers are completing collaborative courses from all angles, class exploration and personality elective. Stimulate students’ inner drive with interest.
With a firm handshake between Ms. Helen and Mr. Bill, started the joint force of these two departments, aiming to lead our very first G5 students to pursue a distinguished and remarkable life. We sincerely hope that all of our G5 students will have gain and joy in this holistic and comprehensive Graduation Course.
