Our school students’ group of SUIS Quintet (Cindy Wang, Kris Li, Joy Zhang and Henry Zhang from 3D) led by Mr. Kimi Kong won the team gold medal in the Read to Me Final Speech Contest.
More than 300 schools and more than 10,000 students have participated in the contest this year.
During the summer vacation of 2020, Cindy Wang from 3D class, participated in the preliminary and semi-finals of the contest, and she is the only one to reach the final in our school. During the preparation for the final, Cindy Wang made a team with Kris Li, Joy Zhang and Henry Zhang from 3D called “SUIS Quintet”. Under the guidance of Mr. Kimi Kong, their theme of the speech was decided to be “Better Life Through Technology” after full discussion.
In the stage of social investigation, Mr. Kimi Kong instructed the four team members to do investigation with the method of “finding questions – doing inquiry – summarizing”. The team members came to the Xujing market and they found some questions, like: Why did the pig sold in the market have a small hole in its ear? Why can we eat summer strawberries in winter? With these questions, they went to the strawberry greenhouse to learn about strawberry growing. At the same time, they contacted technical engineers from technology pig enterprises and learned advanced knowledge of intelligent pig raising through online visit. Throughout the process, Mr. Kimi guided the students to question and explore step by step.
Then the students completed a survey report and prepared a speech. The students rehearsed the speech for many times with Mr. Kimi Kong, and finally they were able to do the speech confidently and fluently.
Last year’s December, the SUIS Quintet team came to the studio hall of Shanghai TV Station to participate in the final, and on 28th of March they were announced to win the final gold medal!
