Nestled within the modern facilities of SUIS Qingpu, we find an ancient scholars house from the mid-Qing Dynasty of Suichang, Zhejiang Province, relocated and renewed to its original charm.

The plaque was unveiled by SUIS Qingpu Co-acting Principals Ms. Sunny Huang and Dr. Adam Neufield

On April 15, 2021, SUIS Qingpu celebrated the official opening of the house, unveiling the Ancient Scholars House plaque. To commemorate the occasion, short speeches were made followed by a performance of the “Dance of the Golden Snake” by a Chinese folk ensemble composed of high school students. The school also held a birthday party for the faculty and staff who were celebrating April birthdays.

The main plaque of Ancient Scholars House displays the four characters “Song Ze Qing Sheng”, taken from a Li Shangyin verse. The meaning of Song Ze relates to the birthplace of Shanghai civilization, and Qing Sheng refers to the fact that culture has been passed down from generation to generation.
In the future, SUIS Qingpu students will be able to enjoy the Ancient Scholars House by reciting ancient poems, playing instrumental music, singing operas, all the while experiencing its beauty and tranquility, inheriting and carrying forward the precious wisdom of ancient sages.
