This month SUIS Qingpu held the very first Primary School Teams Concert. In that evening, the Nightingale Choir, the gallant Marching Band and the passionate SUIS QP orchestra amazed the audience with their performances. In addition, our school specially invited the Hujiang Orchestra from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, to have what is the first musical exchange between both institutions.
With pure and sweet voices, the choristers of the primary school Nightingale Choir sang three songs from different languages, Winter Slumber, Peace Variations and Vois Sur Ton Chemin. With them, the concert was opened, and with their sound and their first steps singing at two voices, they did captivate all the audience. The choir has only been established for one year and half, and this was the first time in which all choristers’ parents could appreciate the result of their children’s great job.
The growth of the marching band during this semester was a milestone. They not only improved their musical ability, exercised their independence and autonomy of listening to each other, but also showed off their spiritual mien. Through the performance of the piece “Dialogue”, the audience could appreciate how the percussion and wind instruments were interacting among each other giving form and coherence to the melodies and rhythmic patterns presented by the piece. This experience differs from their monthly participation in our school’s flag-raising ceremony in the fact that for first time and during their presentation the whole audience was paying attention to them in a concert like setting, and the performers’ spirits were striking. A moment in which parents and teachers felt really proud of them.
The SUIS QP String Ensemble performed the “Concerto No.1 in B minor” and “Summer”, bringing a touch of coolness to the early summer. To this ensemble belong the violin family, comprising the violin, the viola, the cello and the double bass. It has been growing vigorously since its establishment one year ago. We are look forward for them to bring us more wonderful music!
The SUIS QP Wind Ensemble performed the “Nutcracker Suite” and “Simple Gifts”. The wonderful combination of percussion and wind music made the audience find everything fresh and new. This ensemble comprises flutes, trumpets, Oboe and one bassoon, while the percussion orchestra comprises the marimba, snare drum, glockenspiel and bass drum. This is a growing team and we are hoping to include many more wind instruments in it.
We invited to the stage all our current School Team teachers, including the ones form the PE, IT, art and music departments. Thanks to their hard work and effort, all of them have witnessed the growth of the students. In order to acknowledge their great commitment, guidance and dedication to this project, the students presented flowers and gifts to the teachers.
After listening to the performances prepared by our school students, it was the time to welcome our guests: The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. They are students from different majors, but with a love for music that makes them keep practicing day by day. Music can accompany us through our life.
As a didactic concert, the section leaders of the orchestra introduced one by one their instruments to the audience, French horn, tuba, oboe, clarinet, viola… With it, they also sowed the seeds of the orchestral music beauty in the hearts of all.
Here, the passion of music has become the motivation of learning. We expect our students to find their own way on this long road of music and move forward slowly but enjoying every step!
