Poetic Mid-Autumn Festival, full of harmony
Historical books of the Zhou Dynasty recorded use of the word “Mid-Autumn”. By the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Mid-Autumn Festival had been fixed as a permanent part of the calendar,which grew to be an important symbol of Chinese culture.
“The laurel falls in the middle of the moon, and the sky is fragrant and floating outside the clouds.” Every corner of SUIS Qingpu campus is not only filled with the fragrance of Sweet Osmanthus, but also filled with a strong flavor of “Mid-Autumn Festival” and “Han culture”.
Each department carried out colourful garden activities.

Idioms are a well-known feature of Chinese traditional culture. How many idioms do you know? Let’s see what you’ve got in your arsenal; Winning students show humility while others are not discouraged by their loss but motivated for the next contest.
The Mid-Autumn lantern riddle
Mid-Autumn riddles had students deep in thought as they looked deep into their memory to see what relevant knowledge they could remember. The students were challenged by the interesting riddles and by guessing them correctly achieved a sense of literary accomplishment.
Grade 1 children , after they understood the origin and customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival, they picked up the Chinese brush and started to write. They looked as if they are decent “little calligraphers”.
Grade 2 activity is closely related to the Han culture theme, that is collecting idioms themed on “The Moon”. Many idiom cards are hanging in the corridor.
Grade 3 children followed the teachers to open the door to ancient poetry and carefully made beautiful poem cards themed around Mid-Autumn festival and poetries.
Grade 4 will start the appreciation of famous works based on the previous study of poetry this year. On this Mid-Autumn Festival, they walked into the romantic world of the moon and recited the wonderful poems of Li Bai.
Grade 5 will learn from “Analects of Confucius” to “Zhuangzi”, from ancient poetry to small ancient prose to open a world of classic Chinese stories . On this Mid-Autumn festival, they held a Mid-Autumn Festival poetry competition to review old knowledge and learn something new.
Hundreds of students compete to appreciate poetry, and the great ones show their poetry talents.
There was a wonderful artistic performance in our theatre.
We had a delightful mooncake making activity in the canteen.
With the launch of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the annual Chinese Culture Learning Experiences begin. We are looking forward to richer, rewarding activities.
