When we talk about Africa, what first pops up in our minds? Jungles? Deserts? The pyramids? Or, maybe even cocoa beans? While those might be the things that we see on TV, Africa is far, far more than that!
Recently, on November 11, SUIS Qingpu was honoured to have Mr. Pan, father of Pan Yiyang from 4D, deliver a lecture on ‘My trip to Africa’. From the Great Rift Valley to Mount Kilimanjaro, from the Dance of Marseilles to the ‘Five Bullies’, Mr. Pan presented an amazing and very unique glimpse of Africa with a collection of wonderful pictures and videos. Based on feedback from students, this presentation provided them with some serious thinking points about Africa, for example, “Why is Africa developing less quickly than the other continents of the world while being such an amazing land?” and “By being a supportive ‘partner’ of Africa, what else can we do to facilitate its development as a continent with global citizens of the 21st century?
Although the lecture was only 30 minutes long, the seeds of knowledge and responsibility were sown in the fertile minds of the students. We sincerely look forward to the continuous growth of these seeds during this incredible African carnival!
