The SUIS Qingpu Campus held a successful Parents’ Class this month.
At SUIS Qingpu there are a group of parents who are committed to the joint parent-school education
of their children. In the workplace, our parents are industry leaders, partners, scientists and so on.
Yet, they also support the school as photographers and environment layout experts, and today,
they are ‘teachers’!
Inorder to take advantage of valuable parent-school educational opportunities andpromote the
all-round development of our students, we periodically inviteparents who are enthusiastic about
education to join our lessons, to share withstudents aspects of their profession, broaden
students’ horizons, and expand onstudents’ knowledge.
On the first day of winter, Ms. Hong Lihua, Patrick Chen’s mother, introduced lively and
interesting knowledge of diamonds to a class. As we all know, diamonds are a special
feature of South Africa. Thus, Ms. Hong’s talk not only deepened students’ understanding
of Africa, but undoubtedly also contributed wonderfully to our month-long African Carnival.
During the lesson, one diamond’s Cupid Cut greatly sparked the students’ interest. We
hope that our students will be like those diamonds: polish themselves as they gain
experience, and enjoy their own brilliant life.
A good understanding of South African culture and sparkling diamonds is only the ‘tip of the iceberg’
of mysterious Africa. Let us next visit Class 2B, where Wu Yuxin’s mother and her friends brought
wonderful South African flora and fauna to the students!
Ximin Wang, Director of Science and Technology at Chenshan Botanical Gardens and a Senior
Engineer, obtained a Master of Environmental Education and Commentary from the University
of Wisconsin’s Cape Stephen Campus. He is the author of “Rainforest Feathers – Birds of
Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden” and “Plant Kingdom”. He has received honours
such as the Botanical Garden Education Award of Botanical Gardens Conservation International
(BGCI) and is committed to promoting the development of nature education in China.
Zhang Muchun, Party Building Discipline Inspection Cadre for Chenshan Botanical Gardens, is a
member of the Propaganda Office of the Shanghai Construction and Transportation Party Committee,
and gained his Master of Translation from the Hefei University of Technology.
Kenya is a paradise of birds, where birds have beautiful feathers and magical survival wisdom,
they and Kenya’s plants, other wildlife, constitute a vibrant world!
Parents also brought students well-prepared spiritual food, providing them with presentations on
a “Natural Map for Children” and “Science was originally learned in this way.”
At SUIS Qingpu Campus, we uphold the concepts of “balance, diversity, tolerance and innovation”
and take care of the growth and development of our students. We offer our big thanks to all the
parents who brought our students these wonderful lectures. Parent-school education offers children
holistic and rich growth experiences.
