grade 6
Our Grade 6 students are beginning to grow up and learn what life is like as a student at this age. Yes, the students have more responsibility and more independence, but they also display more curiosity and have more opportunities to explore topics in detail. As a result, through an examination of their efforts with their writing, we can learn what they have comprehended thus far and what they are ready for next as they prepare to dive deeper into material coming up this semester. If one takes a closer look, the homework also provides a peek into what lies ahead at SUIS Qingpu. Readings and a documentary about the ‘One Belt, One Road’ are part of a big theme at our campus this year as we come to learn about China’s goal to connect with the world and efforts bringing about a prosperous world for all. Let us praise the Grade 6 students and their efforts as we get ready for the exciting, new things to come at SUIS Qingpu!

grade 7 and 8
Grade 7 and 8 homework also revolved around the theme ‘One Belt, One Road’, enabling students to have a better understanding of their learning and a better preparation for the activities of the new semester. The homework consisted of five parts. The first part involved vocabulary practice. In this part, students needed to accumulate English vocabulary by working on parts of speech, definitions and example sentences for their new words, laying a solid foundation for students’ vocabulary for the new semester. The next three parts focused on gaining general knowledge about ‘One Belt, One Road’, with the first part aiming to help students obtain a general understanding of those countries connected to ‘One Belt, One Road’. Some students also designed exquisite posters for a chosen, specific country.
One article from China Daily was selected as reading material to enable students to have a deeper understanding of the Belt and Road initiative. Next, students watched a BBC Documentary on the Silk Road and were tasked with writing a reflection, helping them to gain a better understanding of the Silk Road and the prosperity of China from different perspectives. The last part involved students creating a vlog about their winter vacation life, with an aim to have them practice their English on a daily basis and at the same time learn to find beauty in life.
The quality of students’ work was inspiring, and the effort they put into their homework was evident for all to see. Students embraced the topic, dived deeply into the subject, and clearly broadened their understandings of ‘One Belt, One Road’. We are proud of our learners and will continuously encourage them to continue their path towards being life-long learners!
