In the recent UKChO competition, we are proud to communicate that six (6) of our promising young scientists who have shown a passion for Chemistry entered the Olympiad and performed exceedingly well!

UK Chemistry Olympiad, UKChO

The UK Chemistry Olympiad (UKChO) is an annual competition hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). The RSC, with headquarters in London and Cambridge, is one of the world’s most influential chemistry organizations. With over 50,000 members and an international network of research, communication and publishing, the Society is the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists, supporting and representing their members and bringing together chemical scientists from all over the world.

The UKChO is a selective British-based competition that potentially leads to participation in the International Chemical Olympiad. UKChO Examiners are mostly professors from either The University of Oxford or The University of Cambridge and who are therefore very familiar with the undergraduate courses at their respective universities. We should add that the UKChO is one of the essential competitions to take if students are aiming to apply to read the sciences at Oxbridge.

To sum up the experience overall, it was a surprise. Organic chemistry was a critical topic in the UKChO competition and our chemistry teacher, Mr George, was a specialist. His crucial expertise in organic chemistry and his insights into the competition were crucial to my success. Mr. George provided us with a vast amount of knowledge and guidance during the pandemic, allowing me to successfully answer several difficult questions I might normally not have been able to. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. George for his hard work and to the school for this opportunity.

The process of learning so much in such a short period of time was rigorous and presented me with a real challenge. I am very grateful to my science teacher, Mr. George, who worked hard to prepare lessons for us before the exam and provided a lot of exam skills – this preparation helped me move through the questions quickly. I highly recommend the experience – it was very fulfilling and pleasant!

First, I wish to thank Mr. George for his amazing lessons. Secondly, the school’s support was indispensable. I have learned so much from the experience and will try my best to continue to grow as a scientist.

I was very surprised to win a prize in the UKChO. Thanks go to Mr. George for his guidance – he taught us many test points and skills in preparation for the Olympiad. After this, I will continue to study hard in chemistry and strive for better results.

When I saw the results of the Olympiad, I felt overjoyed. The UKChO is the most difficult and valuable chemistry competition in UK. I take advantage of CCA time every week to teach the competition class for students who love chemistry. It was less than half a year from the time I first met them to the end of the final competition. Half of the competition content was college chemistry, so the time was tight and the task was tough. Finally, 10 students took part in the competition and two received GOLD MEDALS! Winning a medal in this competition will help students when the time comes in the future for applying to top UK universities. I hope all the teachers and students in the high school will continue to work hand-in-hand, and we look forward to our students receiving offers from top universities next January.
