It won’t be long before the university application season commences once again, and there are so many decisions to be made. We have been assisting our students with many of their decisions, such as those related to choosing the right selection of academic subjects, to career planning, and to finding the right university and major. University fairs are great opportunities for students to obtain relevant and the most up-to-date information about universities.

At the end of April, admissions officers from five well-known UK universities accepted our invitation to join SUIS Qingpu Campus’ Online University Fair: the University of York, Newcastle University, University of Sussex, Loughborough University and Brunel University London. The representatives took turns sharing with attending students, parents and staff general and academic background information for their universities, comprehensively introducing and describing a range of topics such as existing faculties/departments and dominant majors, admission requirements, scholarship applications and future career prospects of graduates.

University of Sussex

The first “Plate Glass University”

The University of Sussex is one of the world’s leading research-intensive universities, and also a comprehensive research university. Founded in 1961, the university was the first UK’s “Plate Glass Universities”. In just 60 years, there have already been 3 Nobel Prize winners and 6 heads of government among its alumni, on average one head of state in every 10 years. The University of Sussex is located near Brighton, southern England’s most vibrant beach city, and is the only university in the UK to be wholly situated in a national park. The university enjoys a high international reputation in the fields of science, social sciences, the arts and humanities, among which the flagship program, Development Studies, has long been ranked number 1 in this field in world university rankings.

 

 

 

University of York

A member of the Russell Group

The historic city of York was voted the most livable city in the UK, and the University of York, a member of the Russell Group, was ranked 10th in the UK in ‘research impact’ by the UK’s Research Excellence Framework. The university’s outstanding majors include archaeology, English, history, art history, linguistics, mathematics, accounting and finance, business and management, psychology, chemistry, biology and computer science. In addition to its excellent academic atmosphere, the University of York has also been committed to providing students with an excellent social and natural environment, and was voted the safest city university in England and Wales.

 

Loughborough University

University of Newcastle

The University of Newcastle is a Russell Group member with one of the largest European Studies programs in the UK, offering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. The University consists of 8 schools, and programs offered in Medicine and Electronic Engineering have always been among the best in the UK. The School of Medicine was the first medical institution in Europe and the second in the world to be granted the license for human stem cell research. In August 2014, Newcastle University’s Business School received AACSB accreditation, making it also a triple-accredited business school (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA).

 

 

Brunel University London

The only campus-style university in London

Brunel University London is an internationally-renowned research and educational public university, and also the only campus-style university in London. Brunel derived its name from Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of the most famous engineers in British history, second only to Winston Churchill in The Times’ 100 Greatest People of All Time poll, underlying Brunel University London’s reputation as one of the UK’s pre-eminent engineering programs. An excellent research and educational university with an international reputation, the university offers a variety of popular subjects including art and design, sport, health and exercise sciences, engineering and technology, and petroleum engineering. The university’s well-equipped Professional Development Centre and free LinkedIn resources have ensured an advantage in employment rates and above-average starting salaries for its graduates.

During their introductions, the representatives emphasized that they would like to encourage more Chinese students to apply for scholarships, welcoming them to their campuses and fully expressing their appreciation for them. The universities generously offer various kinds of scholarships, among which is the University of York’s undergraduate Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship, a scholarship worth up to 20,000 pounds! Some universities have also streamlined the application process for scholarships, giving students the opportunity to automatically receive a scholarship if they meet all conditions and requirements.

During the Q&A session that followed, the representatives interacted actively with the audience and gave detailed answers to every question raised. After a vibrant time of interaction, the SUIS Qingpu Campus Online University Fair came to a successful end.
