LRC Reading Month-Reading Activity Sharing & Display

PART 1

Henry Miller wrote in his work, The Books in My Life, that “A book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you. When you have possessed a book with mind and spirit, you are enriched. But when you pass it on you are enriched threefold.”

During this Learning Resource Center (LRC) reading month, many students became practitioners of the quotation above. Since the LRC launched its reading activities on April 23rd, we have received many contributions from students. We have been very fortunate to learn about the books our students are reading and what they are thinking. We hope that such a vibrant reading atmosphere and collective sharing spirit can be passed on to more teachers and students. PART 2

Event① Book Recommendation

Primary School Division：

The LRC has received a total of 24 video submissions from our Primary School Division. The books recommended by primary school students cover a variety of topics such as history, geography, sports, biographies, science, time management, food, plants, and aviation, etc, and have included a variety of book types such as picture books, chapter books, children’s literature, and comics. In their videos, students not only provided vivid readings and performances, but also shared specific feelings after reading their books. It can be said that if a hundred flowers bloom, each will have its own characteristics! We hope that you find our LRC’s list of recommended books below useful:

Middle & High School Division：

From our middle and high school divisions, the LRC received a total of 28 video submissions, of which 13 were shortlisted. The senior students used more multimedia display methods to recommend their books, such as PPTs and original videos. The recommended books cover literary masterpieces, novels, personal growth guides, autobiographies, comics and other genres. We hope that students can benefit from them. Their choices are listed in the table below:

PART 3

Event② Book Cover Design

The LRC received a total of 18 book cover design submissions from our three divisions (11 from the primary school, 4 from the middle school, and 3 from the high school). The pictures on the left are the covers from the original books; the pictures on the right are the creative designs of the students. While primary school students mainly used crayons, watercolour pens, coloured pencils, markers and collage techniques for their wonderful creations, students in the middle and high schools also used some professional painting software!

In the book recommendation activity, students exercised their language and organizational abilities, generalization abilities and public speaking abilities. In the book cover design activity, they exercised their ability to effectively convey information and aesthetic sense through images. We sincerely hope that both participants and viewers benefit from both events!
