In order to enrich students’ winter vacation life as well as enhance their knowledge, their exposure to interdisciplinary themes and their interest in the homework content, our middle school mathematics teachers tailored a highly-creative winter vacation homework package according to the “double reduction” policy requirements and students’ individual needs. The content of the homework was rich and colourful and the forms diverse, so that students could experience and comprehend the charm of mathematics through theory and practice.
Reading enables students to feel the interest and magic of mathematics and understand the rich and cultural meanings of the discipline. Through the homework readings, students not only learned interesting mathematical knowledge, but also felt the spirit of rigorous scholarship and truth-seeking, specifically in mathematicians.
Students should think independently and review and consolidate their knowledge by drawing a mathematical thinking map. Mind mapping can not only help to build an overall structure of knowledge and strengthen one’s intuitive memory, but can also cultivate divergent thinking and a comprehensive ability for analyzing and solving problems.
Healthy and extensive hobbies can enrich a student’s spiritual world as well as develop their appreciation and respect for culture, art and morality. The teachers, through the development and utilization of Hayashi’s works, enabled students to experience learning outside of the classroom, to bring the classics into the classroom, and to learn dynamically both inside and outside the classroom and school. These practices served to help students appreciate the perfect combination of mathematics and art in a real and extensive cultural context. At the same time, the students also created vivid paintings by themselves.
Students are not only good at discovering mathematical knowledge in life, but are able to apply mathematical knowledge to life by carrying out bold explorations and practice. At SUIS Qingpu, we are truly practicing the concept of “mathematics comes from life and applies to life”.
Innovative and brilliant: students consolidated what they have learned, promoted their thinking, improved their literacy and developed their abilities through this creative homework. In the new semester and with a new starting point, we wish for all our ‘rabbit’ students to fly forward and succeed together!
