“Mom, Dad, where are we going?”

“We’re going to the Meifan Club for Sports Day!”

On April 6 and 7, under sunny skies and with beautiful flowers blossoming, Grade 2 students at SUIS Qingpu along with their parents travelled to the Dianshan Lake Meifan Club to participate in an energetic Student-Parent Sports Day.

“Dad, look! Each class is wearing different coloured sports clothes – the classes look like a rainbow!”
The Student-Parent Sports Day was organized by homeroom classes, and the members of each class wore their own class uniforms designed by themselves. Vibrant orange, quiet blue, youthful green, etc. – the colours lifted up their team spirit, inspiring everyone. Hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, the students ran in the fields.

“Mom, the game is starting, we need to work together!”

The sports events included some favourite children’s games such as dodgeball, the Caterpillar Race and wheelbarrow rolling. These games were adapted from childhood games familiar to parents so that everyone would know the games well and would try their best. It was wonderful to see everyone sweating, enjoying the fun sports, and experiencing the power of unity and teamwork. Look! That’s the parents who are blowing up balloons and tying up/building a dragon. Listen! That’s the sound of cheering for the dodgeball game. Each game promoted student-parent interactions while encouraging class cooperation. These games reminded the parents of their own childhoods – the games served to draw the children closer to their parents and also gave parents the opportunity to better understand their child.

“Put on your life jacket, we’re going sailing!”

After enjoying a lunch buffet, everyone could not hold back their excitement, ready to set sail – it was time to ride the waves! Each class was divided into groups of four to five families to start the voyage. On the sailboat, each family was eager to pose for pictures to better remember the exciting ride. Some families also discussed the structure of the sailboat and brainstormed idioms related to ‘boat’ and ‘ship’. What a joyful moment!

“Pick up your brushes and paint your dreams!”

Painting together was the last activity of the day, a fusion of family unity and love. All the students had their brushes ready to paint and were excited to start! Each family participated together, depicting the dreams in their hearts. “Yes!” As the giant painting was completed, all parents and children waved and cheered happily towards the drone in the sky, laughing joyfully and announcing the success of the day.
“Teacher, the award ceremony has begun. We are looking forward to it!”

The award ceremony has begun! In this student-parent Sports Day, each class was fully engaged, showing their amazing team spirit. Some classes participated in the games very creatively and won the “Innovative Play Award”. Some classes focused on the relationship between humans and nature and the protection of the environment, winning the “Green Model Award”. Some classes competed whole-heartedly, striving to be first – these classes won the “Most Powerful Award”. The awards not only inspired all the classes, but also motivated students to strive for the best and to continue developing these precious qualities in the years ahead.
“Mom and Dad, it was fun! I’d like to do it again!”
The successful Student-Parent Sports Day brought children closer to their parents while enhancing team spirit and class cohesiveness. Children and parents had an amazing day. Let’s look forward to our next spring date together!
