In April, the mood that spring brings also comes with music’s happiness. SUIS Qingpu’s Cross-Grade Artistic Performing Corner (APC) concerts were born one year ago, in March 2022. Whether these concerts occurred online or offline, they have been extremely well-received artistic events that have spotlighted the fantastic talents of many of our SUIS Qingpu students. On April 12, 2023, we welcomed the eighth performance of this talent show.
Music and art students invited friends and family to come enjoy their music performances and art exhibitions. While concert participants were either excitedly preparing backstage or performing on stage, parents, elders, teachers, classmates, and friends enjoyed the entire experience in the audience.
Music performances
This concert included piano pieces from the classical and romantic musical periods, gentle and long cucurbit flute playing, resonant drums, lyrical violins, graceful dances, and many other beautiful and touching songs.
Watching the performers stand on the stage naturally, gracefully, and confidently allowed the audience to appreciate the outstanding performances that much more. Students can achieve high quality performance levels on stage only after long and frequent practicing offstage. Sowing and harvesting do not occur in the same season – the period between these two ‘seasons’ is called ‘persistence’.

Special performance
As is our tradition with these APC concerts, music teachers are invited to perform at the end of each APC performance. On this occasion, two foreign music teachers, Ms. Erika Cardona and Ms. Yuliya Hratyla, shared their performances with all. They performed Romance No. 2 for Flute and a piano piece (Op. 94) from the German composer Robert Schumann. These pieces, from the 19th Century, featured heartfelt and lyrical melodies with a rich and contrasting rhythm between both instruments.
At the end of the performance, SUIS Qingpu’s Assistant Principal and Head of the Primary, Ms. Helen Liu, entered the stage to share some words. Ms. Helen spoke vividly about last year’s challenges already overcome. She shared how exciting it was to have so many parents and friends outside the school present at the concert, appreciating the excellent performances given by all the students. On the Artistic Performing Corner’s first anniversary, Ms. Helen thanked the teachers who had initiated this project and had set up this performance platform especially designed for students. She also thanked the art and music teams who worked hard behind the scenes to make this concert possible, the children for their fantastic performances and their great efforts made to prepare them, and the audience for their enthusiastic support.
All their admiration comes from long practice.
All their growth is dependent on good guidance.
All their achievements take time to prepare.
All their brilliance comes from their unremitting efforts and perseverance.
