The beautiful spring weather has arrived to lift our spirits! On the morning of May 15, the SUIS Qingpu Campus held its monthly Flag-raising Ceremony. In line with the month-long labour education events at school, the theme for this particular ceremony was “Labour, the Source of Happiness”.
While the national anthem played, students carried the flag and then proudly raised it. All stood solemnly under the flag as it unfurled in the morning sunshine, singing the national anthem in unison.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Ms Helen, the Assistant Vice-Principal, delivered her opening speech with the theme of “Better Life, Labour and Creation”. Ms Helen believes that workers’ work in all fields is glorious, noble and important. Only hard work can create real long-term happiness. She encouraged teachers and students to participate in various activities during the May Labour month, cultivate good labour habits, and spread the spirit of love for hard work. Finally, Ms Helen praised the beauty of work with an improvisational poem.
Student representatives from each division made speeches and shared their experiences about cleaning up after themselves, and how their actions benefit them as individuals as well as the campus and all of society. Primary school students uploaded videos of their housework experiences, where it became clear what wonderful children they are! Middle school students, who move from subject classroom to subject classroom throughout the day, put their focus on cleaning up all their classrooms and creating a positive environment for studying. High school students demonstrated not only their ability to take care of themselves, but also to be responsible and set professional goals.
“Labour is my simple but happy duty. As we gather here at SUIS Qingpu, darkness turns to starlight”. The primary student representatives’ recital revealed their pride in the school. You can feel their pride in the following lines:
Green cheers the world, there is music and dancing, come join us.
The spring breeze takes the sorrow away and makes dreams come true.
After winter, wheat emerges and fruit is everywhere,
Like oil paintings, showing the liveliness of spring.
While entering the campus, we learn how to fold our clothes and tie our shoelaces.
We, the second graders, help our parents with housework.
We, the third graders, clean up and make our beds.
We, the fourth graders, learn how to make a tasty meal.
We, the fifth graders, are experts at planting.
I am proud. I am a SUIS Qingpu student.
I am a glorious labourer.
……
The recital closed the ceremony on a very strong note. We hope that every student will continue to work hard to paint a beautiful and responsible life of work.
