In the “Harry Potter” books and movies, children are sorted into four distinct houses at their school, Hogwarts. Well, guess what?! There are also four houses at Shanghai United International School Qingpu Campus! Imagine the magical stories that will unfold at SUIS Qingpu with every student, teacher and staff member in their own ‘magic house’.
Magic House, Dream Set Sail
At the beginning of the school year, teachers and students also experienced a special “House Ceremony,” just like the tradition at Hogwarts. Everyone was assigned to different houses: the Baihu House, which stands for upholding principles and showing care; the Zhuque House, known for critical thinking and innovation; the Xuanwu House, characterized by active inquiry and resilience; and the Qinglong House, recognized for its vast knowledge and confidence. This was not just simple grouping; it introduced a brand-new way of learning and living, offering us more support for growth and development within each House. This was not just a simple grouping, but a new way of learning and living. In different houses, we can find more support for growth and development.
House Points, Honour Incentive
Hogwarts students fight for the House Cup, and students at SUIS Qingpu also working hard for house points. Every positive behaviour, measure of academic progress, or time of selfless help to others can win valuable points for a House. At the monthly awards ceremony, the principal will announce the House with the highest points. At that moment, everyone feels incredibly proud to be a part of their House.
First Gathering, Exciting Moment
Today, we ushered in the first House Assembly of the semester, an exciting moment for the first gathering of the four major Houses. The Middle School choir sang a song full of Chinese style, “Longwen” (The Words of a Dragon), with their beautiful voices, allowing us to feel the profound heritage of Chinese culture.
Principal Huang Ying and Co-Principal Adam’s speech was like a magical potions for us, filling us with strength and confidence. They encouraged us to show a stronger house spirit, and every word made us feel warm and inspired.
Raise Arms and Show Style
Glory Moment, “Sweet” Reward
When the House Cup Award Ceremony finally arrived, the entire playground was immersed in a joyful atmosphere. Principal Huang Ying and Co-Principal Adam personally announced the winner of this month’s “House Cup’. Congratulations to the Xuanwu House for standing out in fierce competition – the head of the Xuanwu House received the House Cup trophy representing the highest honour! This was an exciting moment, and the faces of the students and teachers in the house were filled with pride and excitement. Every student and teacher in the House also received a ‘sweet’ reward – an ice cream voucher! Honour and rewards are not only an affirmation of both team spirit as well as efforts made by those within the house, but also an encouragement for their future journey. At the same time, the two principals also praised the fighting spirit of other houses and encouraged all houses to continue to work hard!
With the first gathering of the four Houses and the announcement of the first House Cup winner completed, the House system at Shanghai United International School Qingpu Campus is now officially implemented! We look forward to the students growing into teenagers with a sense of honour, social responsibility, and care in the ‘magical world’ of Shanghai United International School Qingpu Campus! Dear students, your magical journey has just begun, let’s work together!
