The golden sun beamed down as a gentle breeze danced through the air. Under the vibrant April sky, the SUIS Qingpu sports field transformed into a stage of passion and energy. The much-anticipated annual Sports Day returned with eleven thrilling events, where speed met strength and skill joined hands with teamwork.

On the field, some amazed the crowd with their innate talent, while others forged legends through sheer perseverance. Many students began training half a month in advance, and even when facing shoulder injuries in fierce competition, they gritted their teeth and persevered until the very end—their actions embodied the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Opening Ceremony: The Beat of Youth Begins

The 2024–2025 SUIS Qingpu High School Sports Day officially started on 16th April with much anticipation. Every moment sparked excitement on campus, from the motivational remarks of Dr. Neufield, the principal of SUIS Qingpu, and Mr. Emerson, the Head of High School, to the uplifting slogans of all four houses and the heartwarming messages from parent representatives. The torch-lighting ceremony was the highlight, with representatives of the athletes holding the torch and fuelling it with their desire to succeed. This ritual established a tone of cooperation, courage, and good sportsmanship.

On the Track: Running – the Purest Form of Youth

Sunlight poured onto the track, casting a glow on the figures sprinting ahead. From the explosive bursts of the 100m to the gritty tests of endurance in the 800m and 1000m, the pace of each race shifted, yet the energy never waned. At the starting line, G9 Joy Wang and G10 Kevin Wang remained as calm as ever—at the sound of the gunshot, they launched forward with swift, powerful strides. Long-distance runners synced their breath and pace with quiet determination. Some surged ahead in a final burst, while others pressed on at their own rhythm—all showing us that giving one’s all is more memorable than any medal.

On the Court: Unity Is the Best Way Forward

In the afternoon, the courts and fields buzzed with excitement as basketball, volleyball, and football matches brought a surge of energy. Students from various grades and classes faced off, representing their Qinglong, Zhuque, Xuanwu, and Baihu houses. In the 3-on-3 basketball matches, G10 Jerry Wang stood out with swift drives and precise passes, becoming a vital scorer for his team. Tension soared on the volleyball court, with every serve, set, and spike drawing gasps from the crowd. Meanwhile, on the football pitch, teams moved with fluid coordination, shifting from defence to offence in smooth, strategic plays—it was like watching a fast-paced mini tournament unfold. More than just a display of athletic ability, these matches highlighted the power of teamwork and trust under pressure.

Frisbee & Tug of War: The Other Side of Youthful Energy

Frisbee was a spectacle of agility and tactics, with discs tracing smooth arcs through the air. Players dashed to intercept and pass. G10 Ricky Chen, G11 Joanna Qian, and Ryan Zhu stood out with sharp reflexes and calm judgement, scoring several impressive points.

Meanwhile, at the Baihu House’s tug-of-war arena, the intense competition captivated the attention of numerous parents and teachers. This was no stage for individual heroics—just everyone pulling together as one. Every synchronised shout and every shift in footing spoke of the deep trust binding the members of the house. Cheers from the sidelines swelled into a powerful wave of support, turning the contest into a true celebration of unity.
