Walking into the SUIS campus, who shows up already glowing with their own “spotlight buff”? They’re the tech experts who’ve delved deep into the world of science and engineering, the creative pioneers who command the aesthetics of design, the industry professionals who safeguard cybersecurity, and the top talents excelling in their own fields. They are the amazing parent community of SUIS Qingpu!
Recently, a series of themed and varied parent-led classes has begun. These “guest instructors”, bringing both professional expertise and life experience, have created unique and engaging learning sessions for the students, giving the classroom a fresh burst of energy.

Theme: “Making Friends with Robots.” A student mentored by Ray Zhu’s father (Class 1F) took the stage. Through fun interactions and a parade of robot images, the speaker linked robotics to everyday school life. Children discovered robots’ “super hearing” and “thousand-mile eyes,” while learning safety rules for interacting with them, and imagining future possibilities. Curiosity and creativity quietly sprouted in the playful atmosphere.

Kimi Yu’s father (Class 2D), an architect and teacher, led an “Artistic Adventure across Europe.” Acting as an “expedition guide,” he revealed the “light-shadow magic” that turns flat pictures into three-dimensional stories. He introduced the Colosseum, Cologne Cathedral, and other stone giants, comparing ancient builders to “real-life Minecraft players.” Faith, glory, perseverance, and courage slipped into the children’s hearts alongside the stories of great works.

Grade 3: Guard Cyberspace—Starting with Me
Valerie Ren’s mother (Class 3H), Ms. Guan Xuesong, Deputy General Manager of NSFOCUS Shanghai, became the “Cyber-Security Ambassador.” She transformed the virtual yet real “Internet Playground” into a safe adventure! Comparing the web to an amusement park, she explained that “only rules keep play safe and fun.” As “Privacy Guardian,” she mapped personal data boundaries using names, ID numbers, and other relatable examples.
“Cyber police” and “security engineers” appeared; smart door locks, facial-recognition gates, and other daily scenes became quick safety-skills classes. Catchy rhymes and a collective oath turned password care, stranger alerts, and proper camera use into firm safety promises. Laughter planted seeds of self-protection.

Grade 4: A Wonderful Journey to Disney
Luna Lin’s father, a Disney high-end brand designer, became a “special tour guide.” He took the children on a virtual journey through dream castles and parks, unpacking the hidden design, architectural aesthetics, and storytelling techniques that create Disney’s immersive fairy-tale magic. Classic characters were decoded for their universal values of courage, friendship, and chasing dreams—an entertaining yet profound introduction to aesthetics.

Grade 5: Mysteries of the Deep Sea
Thanks to the warm coordination of 5B student Tienyu Guo’s mother, the fifth graders were joined by Chief Scientific Expedition Expert Hu Libo (known as “Teacher Fox”), who brought his extensive experience in marine research straight into the classroom. His humorous opening instantly sparked the students’ curiosity, filling the room with lively excitement.
During the talk, Teacher Hu drew on his observations from expeditions in the South China Sea and the polar regions, breaking down complex concepts into clear, accessible language. He covered everything from the “Fendouzhe” submersible’s 10,000-metre dive; the high level of domestic innovation in the “Deep-Sea Warrior”; how multibeam echo-sounders “give the seabed an ultrasound”; to the clever use of CTD systems for hydrological measurements, and even the secrets behind deep-sea microorganisms that thrive in extreme environments and can be used to develop new medicines. Combined with vivid field details, the content was rich, engaging, and easy to grasp.
The children eagerly fired off questions like “Would a foam cup really get flattened in the deep sea?” and “Can a research vessel bump into a pod of dolphins?” Their enthusiasm practically overflowed. Teacher Hu answered patiently while the theatre echoed with laughter and gasps. The whole session was tight-paced and full of fun, not only expanding the students’ knowledge of marine expeditions but also igniting their curiosity about exploring the deep blue world.

From wonderful interactions in the world of robots to exploring the light and shadow of European art, from essential guides to cyber-security to the fairy-tale aesthetics of Disney, and further to hardcore popular science about the deep sea—parents have used their passion and expertise to open doors to diverse fields for their children. These fascinating sessions have left warm and profound impressions in the children’s hearts.
