Our School’s Parent-Teacher Conferences and Parent Teatime – A time to warm and connect our Hearts this Winter

Effective communication between home and school serves as the essential bridge connecting our joint educational efforts. To gather our collective wisdom for raising a child, our school meticulously planned Parent-Teacher Conferences and Parent Teatime sessions for each grade level. Through clear communication, we conveyed our educational philosophy, and through warm interaction, we nurtured growth.

I. Parent-Teacher Conferences: Clear Communication, Blueprinting Education Together

“Warm winter sun nurtures new seedlings; united hearts will protect their growth.” Our Parent-Teacher Conferences were tailored to the developmental trajectory of students at different levels. From basic positive habit-building to academic abilities, we proceeded layer by layer to build a solid foundation for education.

For the Lower Primary Grades, the focus was on “Habit Formation and Character Building.” Teachers detailed their classroom management philosophies, the system for cultivating daily behavioural norms, and the moral education plans for the semester. From adapting to campus life and guiding peer interactions to fostering a sense of responsibility, they shared comprehensive insights into the children’s growth and developmental priorities, clarifying the direction for moral education. For the Upper Primary Grades, the emphasis shifted to the transition from “Concrete to Abstract Thinking.” This stage highlighted “Competency Integration and Comprehensive Ability Expansion,” encouraging children to enhance their holistic qualities through the practical application of knowledge.

During the academic exchange session, teachers of Chinese, Maths, English, and other subjects grounded their presentations in core competencies, systematically explaining teaching logic and key points for home-school collaboration. They not only clearly elucidated the curriculum architecture and classroom teaching models but also introduced a rich variety of subject activities, offering practical and effective advice for parental cooperation based on actual teaching scenarios.

Chinese teachers focused on the cultural depth within poetry and prose, guiding parents on how to help children solidify their linguistic foundation through parent-child reading. Maths teachers clarified the thinking logic behind formulas and theorems, sharing coaching techniques to exercise reasoning skills through real-life practice. English teachers detailed methods for multi-modal text reading and contextual application. The bilingual team further demonstrated actual teaching scenarios through classroom videos, clarifying the direction for home-school cooperation in expanding cross-cultural cognition.

Simultaneously, teachers explained the role of subject activities in enhancing language application skills and shaping expressive confidence, citing examples such as Maths Financial Quotient activities, the SUIS Voice English speech contest, the Spelling Bee, and the Chinese-English Reading Marathon. Furthermore, regarding pre-class preparation and post-class consolidation, teachers provided actionable home guidance suggestions, ensuring parents clearly understood how to complement classroom teaching, achieving synchronised support between home and school, and building a three-dimensional cultivation system of “Knowledge Consolidation + Ability Advancement + Habit Deepening.”

II. Parent Teatime: Tea Scent Soothing Hearts, Discussing Growth Progression

If the Parent-Teacher Conference serves as a precise guide for education, the Parent Teatime acts as a warm “Experience Station.” Using a model of “One-on-One Focus + Experience Sharing,” it deconstructs personal challenges, making communication warmer and more intimate.

At the tea gathering, Principal Helen Liu delivered a speech themed “Cultivating Learning Power and Growth Power Together with Children.” She deeply analysed the pain points of education in the AI era, proposing that parents need to transform from “Supervisors” to “Empowerers.” She urged building a “Growth Community” with the school, replacing anxiety and surprise inspections with understanding and companionship. The grade level teams simultaneously reported on educational achievements: top rankings in standardised and regional exams, fruitful results in academic competitions, and repeated successes by sports and art school teams. The most moving part was the experience-sharing session, where parent representatives from each grade shared their parenting wisdom, full of practical insights. The mother of Jiang Yuhan (Class 3F) drew upon her experience raising two children to share the wisdom of “Patiently Waiting for the Child to Bloom.” The mother of Liu Peiyi (Class 4F) detailed techniques for cultivating English reading habits, while the parenting methods shared by Kimi’s mother (Class 2D) resonated with the collective group. Subject teachers then provided precise one-on-one answers to parents’ confusion, covering topics from “Balancing Study and Play” to “Improving Homework Efficiency,” making methods more concrete and directions clearer.

Education is a warm journey of mutual effort. Our school will continue to use Parent-Teacher Conferences and Parent Teatime as bridges for communication. With hearts united, home and school will solidify the path of “Habit—Ability—Competency,” allowing every childlike heart to thrive in love and sunshine.

Appendix: Feedback on the Autumn Appointment for Growth – Parent Teatime

Parent of 1E: I was honoured and greatly benefited from the opportunity to attend this heartwarming tea session, listening quietly to the Principal’s passionate and visionary insights and engaging in such close communication with the teachers. Principal Helen’s speech deeply made me realise that our school not only focuses on the academic progress of the children but is also committed to cultivating their character and broadening their horizons. My exchanges with the teachers allowed me to personally experience how this educational philosophy is carefully practised every day, in every class. As parents, we may occasionally feel anxious or confused; this event served as a bridge, helping me better understand the school’s efforts and clarifying the direction for our partnership. Education is a warm ensemble, not a solo performance. In the future, we will cooperate more actively with the school and support the teachers to jointly create fertile soil for our children’s growth.

Parent of 1F: On this autumn afternoon filled with the scent of osmanthus, I was fortunate to participate in the school’s “Growth Appointment” tea session, leaving with a full heart and warm feelings. Principal Helen’s sharing on “Home-School Co-education” particularly resonated with me—today’s children are “Digital Natives.” The boundaries of interaction and the reciprocity of love made me reflect on my “high expectations”: I realised that I was always rushing to see his progress while forgetting that he also needs space to stretch. Miss Hu’s breakdown of “Daily Life in Grade 1” was very clear: knowing what the child is learning and what the teacher is doing makes our role as parents much clearer. The parenting experiences shared by parent representatives were very down-to-earth, alleviating much of my anxiety. This tea session was a gentle reminder: growth is not about “rushing the schedule,” but about accompanying him to slowly find his rhythm—finding learning methods, and more importantly, finding a relaxed mindset. I am grateful to stand with the school and be the “steady support” in my child’s growth.

Parent of 1D: The arrangement of the Parent Teatime was incredibly thoughtful and rewarding. A particular surprise was how the event revealed the “behind-the-scenes” of teaching, such as the rigorous teaching research process and the school’s meticulous mechanism for checking homework grading. The sharing of “practical wisdom” from parents of previous cohorts was also deeply inspiring. My heartfelt thanks to the school for the meticulous organisation and selfless sharing, which makes us feel reassured and proud of our child’s growth environment!

Parent of 2C: Participating in the Grade 2 learning tea session was incredibly rewarding! The Chinese teacher showcased the children’s progress from simple sentence writing to creative composition; the Maths teacher shared fun cases of discovering maths in daily life; and the English classroom was full of laughter. The thoughtfully designed teaching by teachers of all subjects not only solidifies foundations but also sparks interest. Seeing the tender yet serious handwriting in their workbooks, I deeply felt that the children are accumulating the power of growth amidst happiness. As a Parent Committee member, I am even more convinced of the importance of home-school collaboration. Let us continue to cooperate with teachers and be the warm support for our children as they explore the world. I believe that nourished by love, these seedlings will surely thrive and shine with their own unique brilliance!

Parent of 2C: I was honoured to be invited to the Grade 2 Parent Teatime. The comprehensive sharing by the Grade Head, the specific teaching situations and philosophies shared by subject teachers, and the parenting experiences shared by other parents all left a deep impression on me. Through their sharing, the teachers comprehensively demonstrated the school’s practical achievements in curriculum construction, teaching innovation, and home-school collaboration. From differentiated cultivation models to AI empowerment, and from core competency cultivation to diverse growth support, the school is building a multi-dimensional educational ecosystem guided by the “Four Visibles”: “Making teaching philosophy visible, making subject education visible, making diverse development visible, and making student growth visible.” As the teachers mentioned, education is a warm watch; only when home and school are united, waiting patiently for the flowers to bloom, can every child shine uniquely. The session ended with lively discussions in free groups between teachers and parents. Everyone left with great takeaways, looking forward to the next gathering.

Parent of 3C: The Parent Teatime was warm and fulfilling. Teachers explained subject education philosophies in depth and showcased teaching results; the Grade Director used a video to connect moments from the half-semester, during which the children’s focused smiles shone brightly. Parent representatives shared insights on the transition within the consistent education system and imparted experiences on building good parent-child relationships, which was very rewarding. May home and school continue to join hands to guard the healthy growth of our children.

Parent of 4D: We benefited greatly from this symposium and truly felt the teachers’ dedication in their daily teaching. In particular, hearing teachers emphasise the cultivation of children’s spirit of inquiry and good character made us feel especially reassured as parents. We also really enjoyed the final parent sharing session. Eason’s mother’s sharing on “cultivating children’s reading interest and the benefits of listening and reading” was equally beneficial! I hope there will be more opportunities in the future for more parents to step forward and share their “parenting tips” in specific areas—whether it’s guiding children in time management, effective parent-child communication, sparking interest in a certain subject, or family exercise tips.

Parent of 4F: The study suggestions shared by the teachers were very practical. What particularly caught my eye was the interdisciplinary PBL (Project-Based Learning) project—allowing children to collaborate on theme-based video creation across Art, Language, Math, and Science based on their own strengths. This approach, which respects individuality and unleashes potential, not only allows every child to demonstrate their unique value but also shows us the depth of the educational design—it truly focuses on cultivating children’s comprehensive competencies, rather than just learning knowledge.

Parent of 4G: As a new parent, I felt completely reassured and moved after attending today’s Parent Teatime. Teacher Zhang’s introduction to the school’s teaching philosophy, competition results, and teacher professional development activities made me deeply feel the school’s high regard for teaching quality and sense of responsibility for every student. Seeing that teachers are constantly learning and improving themselves makes us parents feel even more at ease about our children’s education at school. This tea session not only answered many of my questions but also allowed me to feel the presence of a warm, professional, and powerful educational community.
