Our Primary School’s 6th MAPS Festival held its grand opening from 28 to 30 April. Centred on the theme “Music, Art, Physical Education and STEAM: Continuing a Splendid Legacy”, the festival runs throughout May and extends all the way to 1 June, Children’s Day. Focusing on science, technology, arts and sports, it has embarked all students from Grades 1 to 5 on a wonderful cultural and artistic journey. The vibrant and uplifting opening ceremony kicked off the festival in a splendid start.
Artistic Elegance:
Encountering Chinese and Western Aesthetic
The opening ceremony delivered a vibrant and inspiring start, with teachers from every department putting on wonderful performances that offered students a glimpse into the artistic culture of the 14th to 16th Century Renaissance era, alongside the parallel artistic aesthetics of China’s Ming Dynasty.
The Art section featured brilliant, grade-level exhibitions focusing on Eastern and Western artists from the Renaissance and Ming periods, guiding students to create culturally rich and creative works. Art teachers also staged the distinctive performance “The Zen Walker”, portraying iconic Renaissance figures alongside traditional Ming Dynasty characters to present a fascinating collision of Chinese and Western art.
The Music team brought “Spring Charm”, an elegant show using traditional Chinese oil-paper umbrellas, graceful melodies and gentle movements, highlighting the unique artistic charm of China’s Ming Dynasty during the European Renaissance.
Innovation Meets Intangible Culture:
Fun with Science
The STEAM team presented a fun science show, blending flame experiments with the intangible cultural heritage of Sichuan opera fire-spitting. By integrating scientific principles into an engaging performance, students experienced the wonders of science and the beauty of traditional culture, sparking curiosity and a desire to explore.
The PE team created a tug-of-war themed opening ceremony performance, bringing together teachers from various disciplines in a special parade. In neat and orderly formations, with high spirits and seamless teamwork, they vividly illustrated the spirit of unity and sportsmanship, igniting students’ passion for sports and friendly competition.
Upcoming events include a fashion show, a drawing competition, science lectures and hands-on science experiments, continuing to enrich students’ growth through a blend of arts, sports and technology.
Playful Fun on the Field:
Grade 1 Joyful Sports Day
Spring brought childlike joy to the Grade 1 Fun Sports Day. The whistle blew, and a new kind of challenge began. Little ones became energetic competitors, taking part in a happy contest of courage, cooperation and teamwork. The playground was filled with laughter and enthusiasm.
The competition was full of excitement. The “Crazy Caterpillar” teams moved in sync, charging towards the finish line amid cheers. In the three-legged race, partners supported each other, chanting as they advanced—gaining trust and joy through teamwork. The matching game tested their focus and speed, and each success brought a real sense of accomplishment. The young throwers aimed carefully and threw with effort, earning applause. In the rolling wheel event, everyone worked together to steer towards their goal. On the bouncy fun zone, children jumped gracefully, releasing their energy. The kangaroo jump had them hopping with playfulness and delight. Little movers carried props carefully, while the ball relay showcased smooth teamwork.
The final tug-of-war brought the atmosphere to a climax, with shouts and cheers rising and falling. Beyond victory or defeat, the children’s smiling faces as they hugged one another shone brilliantly in the sunlight. This was a celebration just for the children, where collaboration, bravery and joy came together. Every moment was full of vitality—warm and unforgettable.
Windy Youths, Burning Passion:
Grades 3–5 Spring Sports Meet
In the vibrant spring air, the Grades 3–5 Spring Sports Meet kicked off with energy. On the track, in the pool and across the field, young athletes shone brightly, filling the season with passion and teamwork.
On the Track: Sprinters excelled in the 100m, 200m and 400m events. At the sound of the starting gun, they dashed forward like the wind—every step powerful, every second full of effort. The skipping-rope area buzzed with rhythmic motion, with children moving nimbly and confidently. The 4×100m relay brought the crowd to its feet, with each baton handover a symbol of trust and unity.
In the Pool: Young swimmers excelled in 50m freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Gliding gracefully through the water, they moved with calm determination. In the 4×25m freestyle relay, teams raced with all their might—splashes and applause filling the air—a true display of youthful spirit and courage.
On the Tug-of-War Field: Students gripped the rope, lowered their centre of gravity and pulled together with loud chants. The rope swayed back and forth, and every effort was met with cheers from the sidelines. Their united efforts became the most moving sight of spring.
Youth marches on, never stopping. This sports meet featured the heat of running, the lightness of jumping, the drive of swimming and the warmth of standing together. Every participant gave their all, and every smiling face shone brightly. May these young hearts carry their love and perseverance forward—riding the winds of growth, chasing the light and moving ever onward.
Together in arts, sports and technology, they build dreams and chase glory. May every student keep their childlike spirit, grow in character through the arts, strengthen their body through sports and thrive in the sun…living their youth to the fullest.
