Greetings!
To implement President Xi’s important directive comments and to fulfill Prime Minister Li Keqiang’s requirements, on January 21st, 2020, the National Education Department requested the Educational System to take measures to deal with the situation of coronavirus based on the State Council’s meeting arrangement and conference calls’ instructions. The Xiehe Education Group has launched an infectious disease response plan, which includes preparation and preventive measures to maximize assurance of the health of all students and staff.
1. Preparation and Preventive measures that the school has already implemented.
In addition to the cleaning, disinfection, and ventilation routine, the school will also ensure the following measures:
1. All students, staff and visitors are subject to a body temperature test before entering the school;
2. All the boarding students need to take morning and evening body temperature tests;
3. Collect student sick leave / attendance records;
4. Minimize visits during the school time;
5. Inform parents of preventive measures by letter;
6. Reduce or stop off-site visits;
7. School bus staff will monitor student body temperature on a daily basis;
8. Monitor and increase the quantity of disinfection supplies (soap, sanitizer, wet paper towels, etc.) and health protection supplies (latex gloves, masks, etc.);
9. Increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfection of classroom items, playground facilities, outdoor areas, dormitory facilities, elevator buttons, air conditioning filters, exhaust fans, windows, ultra-lights, etc.
10. Keep close contact with the local education and epidemic prevention departments, and implement the local school’s epidemic prevention measures in accordance with the highest standards.
2. Maintain good hygiene practices to reduce risk.
During the holiday, when a large number of people have been travelling, we call on everyone to take precautions and maintain good hygiene practices. According to the prevention and control information provided by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SUIS Qingpu recommends the following protective measures to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection:
1. Avoid any activities in public places with no air circulation or dense crowds, and wear a face mask;
2. After returning home, wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
3. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow flexion when coughing and sneezing;
4. Avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold or flu-like symptoms;
5. Cook meat and eggs thoroughly;
6. Avoid contact with wild or farmed animals without protection;
7. The surfaces of tables and chairs should be cleaned daily and disinfected regularly;
8. After a visitor (with an unknown health condition) visits, immediately disinfect the surfaces and objects the visitor has made contact with. Use legal and effective disinfectant or disinfection wipes to wipe and disinfect.
9. Ventilate your room and apartment, either natural ventilation or mechanical ventilation;
10. If you feel unwell, especially if you have a fever or cough, you need to wear a surgical mask and go to the hospital as soon as possible;
11. At the hospital, please come prepared to inform the doctor of the places you have visited recently and whether you have been in contact with any animals;
12. If someone at home becomes sick, the patient should be promptly sent to the doctor and not by public transport;
13. After the patient leaves, all areas and surfaces the sick person has been in contact with should be disinfected. For specific disinfection methods, consult the local disease prevention and control agency and cooperate with professionals to complete the disinfection.
3. Implement what the Education Bureau requires, and collect data actively and promptly.
The Education Bureau has informed us of some information we need from you. If you, your family members or close friends are from Wuhan, Hubei, or you have been to Wuhan, Hubei recently, please contact your Homeroom Teachers or relevant staff members of the school. Your privacy will be respected, please be noticed we will not leak the information. Thank you for understanding and cooperating under the special circumstances.

5. Unity is our strength and let’s start from ourselves.
At this critical time period of the year, it’s essential for everyone to be united. We may not be able to support to improve the situation, however we can, together, be an upholding force of people, who are contributing their best to defeat the virus. Please take responsibility of our own family’s health, as well as the well-being of people around you. Your contribution will be greatly valued. We trust that all parents, students and staff members will not believe or share rumors, or spread negative news relevant to the situation. This is to reduce interference from unfavorable comments. We sincerely hope all that medical staff engage to fight with the confidence and strength we are offering. Finally, we call on SUIS parents and students to take precautions by reducing trips and avoid gathering at crowded locations. Group actives or reunions are better cancelled for a peaceful and safe Chinese New Year!
SUIS Qingpu will continue to monitor changes in the chronovirus situation, and the school does not rule out the possibility of further adapting the school response in light of any changes.
