April is the start of spring and the celebration of Earth Day. On April 22nd, SUIS students will spend time to take care of our planet. Combined with the theme of a green Earth, this school will show students the actions taken to protect our environment.

With the resonant national anthem playing, the five-star red flag is rising.

Leo Luo from the primary school and Billy Shang from the high school delivered a mini drama “I Can Sort Garbage”. They used catchy children’s songs to share good practices for sorting garbage.
Let’s clap one, remember to separate garbage.
Clap two, tell the color of the bin before you throw it away.
Clap three, blue bin for recyclable waste.
Clap four, red bin for hazardous waste.
Clap five, green bin for household food waste.
Clap six, gray bin for residual waste.

Three students, Kevin Huang, Tenzin Hao and Sara Lin from the middle school, used cross talk to tell anecdotes about environmental protection in their lives. The performance was humorous, and drew laughter from the audience.

After the drama, Dr. Adam Neufield, Co-acting principal of SUIS Qingpu, explained the the meaning of Earth Day.
To unite people who care about the planet, wildlife, and people;
To remind governments how important our Earth is;
To motivate people to do something for the Earth;
The make the future of our planet a priority;
And to give YOU a chance to say something about our Earth.

If we want to take good care of the earth, we must have a strong body. Our school’s fitness center has been opened to middle and high school students, faculty and staff. At the end of today’s flag-raising ceremony, Ms. Maxine Lu, General Principal of the Xiehe Education Group, presented flowers and certificates to the parent who donated to the fitness center. We hope that every person in Qingpu Xiehe can develop good habits such as playing sports and living a green life!
